Why do I do this ... Feldenkrais? 🤔
Years ago, at a time when I had a lot of back pain, someone suggested I try Feldenkrais. I didn't know anything about it, but why not?🤷♀️
My first class, I laid on the floor doing these tiny, unusual movements, thinking "this is so weird! How will this do anything?" Then I stood up... and to my shock, felt like *four inches* taller. Lighter. More agile than I'd felt in years. I got in my car and turned to check my blind spot — and realized I was turning further than I ever could before. What the heck?! I just started laughing.
My back pain disappeared over the following months. But life took me somewhere rural, with no practitioners around. I didn't fully forget about it though — it seems it just sat there, waiting.
Years later, out of nowhere, I wondered to myself — I wonder if there's any trainings for Feldenkrais? I googled "Feldenkrais training" and found one starting, just 4 hours away in Santa Fe, in three months! ✨ I didn't even know then if I wanted to be a practitioner. I was excited to get back into this modality, and I just knew I had to follow this synchronicity.
The first time I received a 1:1 Functional Integration session was in week one of the training. It changed my posture more than 20+ years of trying ever had. At the end of the session, the trainer's hands gently on my spine, I took what felt like the ***first full breath*** of my life. I cried.
I was so worried that I would lose that feeling. She told me something I've never forgotten: "You will lose this feeling. Over the next few days, you'll go back to your old patterns and habits. But now that you've found it, you can always find it again. And eventually, this will become your new habit."
That's what I get to give people now. The feeling of possibility, feeling a new freedom from limitations they didn't even know they had. Being in a body can feel fun, joyful, easy, good. 🤸🏽♀️
