Our staff of more than 100 skilled professionals work with a diverse range of individuals in need of employment, education, training, rehabilitation, eldercare and other specialized services—from the unskilled single mother

receiving public assistance to the highly skilled corporate executive; from the sixteen-year-old high school dropout in trouble with the law to the recent college graduate; from the non-English speaking refugee to American-born adults seeking to earn their GED; from the high school freshman with autism to the frail elderly woman living alone on a fixed income. JVS fulfills its mission each and every day by living our adopted credo: “The highest degree of charity is to take hold of persons who have been crushed . . . to find work for them and thus put them on their feet so they will not be dependent upon others.” (Moses Maimonides, 1135-1204)

[JVS Impact] 121% Increase in Job Placements!

At JVS, our goal is to help individuals find employment and achieve financial stability by overcoming challenges related to age, ability, education, immigrant status, job skills training, language barriers, or the effects of generational poverty.

Inspired by Jewish values, JVS proudly serves clients from any and all backgrounds.

We are pleased to announce that during the period from July 2024 through February 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, JVS placed 166 individuals in new jobs. This represents an impressive 121% increase, which equates to 91 more people!

Celebration was in the air this week in East Orange. 12 graduates of our Certified Home Health Aide training program and 12 graduates of our ESL Pharmacy Technician training program (for those of whom English is not their first language) were honored for their achievements as they received their diplomas.

The Home Health Aide graduates are now equipped to enter the field and provide critical homecare services to people in need. Our ESL Pharm Tech graduates have strengthened their language skills, completed their externships and 125 hours of coursework, and are prepared to take the PTCB exam and acquire a job in the field.

“This is a journey that each of us chose to embark on with compassion, courage, and commitment,” said Regina, a Home Health Aide graduate. “We have worked hard, studied with focus, and trained with heart. We learned more than skills and procedures. We learned how to listen, to comfort, and to care.”

“Despite the unpredictability of life, today is a reminder that perseverance matters,” remarked Lience, an ESL Pharm Tech graduate. “It’s proof that we should keep challenging ourselves, because beautiful things can happen.”

We wish each graduate luck and fulfillment in their next endeavors.

Join us during April as we celebrate Autism Acceptance Month, beginning with World Autism Awareness Day on April 2.

This year marks the 18th annual World Autism Awareness Day, established by the United Nations to raise awareness about autistic individuals within our communities.

Over the years, the focus has shifted from awareness to acceptance, fostering a society where autistic individuals are supported and understood. During Autism Acceptance Month, we also celebrate autistic individuals and their positive contributions to society.

At JVS of MetroWest, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to fulfill their own potential and contribute to society, including people with disabilities.

Through our Disability Services department, we offer vocational rehabilitation to adults with physical, emotional, developmental, and social disabilities, including adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

We provide the individualized assistance necessary to enable them to be successful in the workforce—and the larger world.

Applications for Student Loans and Grants are Now Open

To help local Jewish students make their higher education experience more affordable, JVS provides two forms of financial assistance to qualified students:

• Perlmutter Student Loans: Interest-free loans of up to $3,000 are available to Jewish college students from the MetroWest area who need financial assistance to pursue their full-time college education or graduate program.

• Shapiro Grants: One-year grants to help Jewish students pursue post-graduate degrees in medicine, medical science, graduate nursing, and/or rabbinical studies.

[NEW] STAR Program | Designed for people with disabilities seeking community employment

At JVS of MetroWest, we are excited about our brand-new program, which kicks off in April to help people with disabilities find employment in the community.

“STAR” stands for: Skills Training And Readiness.

Also known as Competitive Integrated Employment, the program runs for 27 weeks and offers a highly individualized approach to employment success.

It is a 3-phase program that helps people with disabilities gain the life and career skills they need to transition to community employment.

Phase I: READY

This phase features group activities that focus on developing social skills, job-seeking skills, workforce readiness, and participating in hands-on experiences.

Phase II: SET

Participants will focus on advanced social skills, travel training, job-seeking strategies, mentorships, and job skills with extended community-based activities that focus on learning job tasks.

Phase III: GO

We work with the participants and their family members / caregivers and focus on finding competitive integrated employment, including opportunities for additional training in one of JVS’s job-specific training programs in our Center for Economic Opportunity.

Participants may receive job coaching until they are secure in their position and / or enrolled in Long-Term Follow Along if warranted.

Students in our ESL Certified Pharmacy Technician training program recently learned how to give immunizations. Through hands-on exercises, each student had an opportunity to practice injection techniques while learning about pharmacist technicians’ roles in immunization.

In collaboration with Walgreens, our externship site for pharmacy technician students, JVS began training students how to give immunizations. When working with employer partners, we aim to develop customized workforce development plans that respond to the needs of both employers and job seekers. This training is a product of that collaboration. Earning immunization certifications will make our students more competitive in the job market upon graduation.

JVS is expanding its job skills offerings with the launch of a new Certified Nursing Assistant training program.

This course will prepare you to work with patients in hospitals, assisted living facilities, acute and sub-acute care facilities, and more. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification helps prepare you for growth opportunities in healthcare.

Additionally, if you are a Certified Home Health Aide, you may be eligible to take an abbreviated course and earn your CNA Certification, giving you increased job opportunities.
