There is something beautiful about the way a song can light up a room.

We love watching a favorite melody bring a smile to someone’s face and a story to their lips, whether it is a tune from a wedding day or a song that always meant dancing in the kitchen.

Music has a way of reminding us that every resident carries a lifetime of joyful moments, just waiting for the right note to bring them back.

Thirty years ago, Silverado was founded on a belief that people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias deserve a life of purpose, dignity, and joy.

Today our home office gathered for our 30th Anniversary Luncheon to celebrate that belief and the people who have carried it forward every single day.
The afternoon held a very special moment.

In recognition of our founder Loren B. Shook and his exemplary leadership, the Honorable Young Kim, Member of Congress for California’s 40th District, requested that an American flag be flown over the United States Capitol. The accompanying certificate honors Loren’s tireless commitment to enriching lives and uplifting those living with dementia, and congratulates Silverado on three decades of service to our community.

Loren, thank you. Your vision changed what memory care could be, and it continues to guide every community, every associate, and every resident we serve.

To our associates, residents, families, and partners who have been part of this journey: this milestone belongs to you. We are grateful for the last 30 years and even more excited for what comes next.

Love is greater than fear. Here’s to the next 30.

The senses can remember what words sometimes cannot. 🍂

A resident steps outside and hears the crunch of leaves beneath their feet. They feel the cool fall air, notice the colors changing around them, and take in the movement of the season.

For someone living with dementia, sensory experiences like these can create meaningful moments of connection.
Familiar sounds, sights, textures, and movement can encourage engagement, spark emotion, and bring comfort in ways words sometimes cannot.

Connection is not always about remembering every detail. Sometimes, it is about being fully present in a moment that feels familiar, comforting, and joyful.

Those are the moments that matter.

A touch of fall, made with purpose. 🍂

Residents at Silverado San Juan Capistrano gathered for Service Club to create floral pens and festive wreaths for their community. Each creation offered a chance to share their talents, work alongside friends, and help make familiar spaces feel special.

Thank you to our resident volunteers for the creativity and care you bring to the place you call home. 💙

Meet Andrea Mendoza, our dedicated Lead Engagement Assistant. 💙

For Andrea, each day is about much more than planning activities. It is about sitting together, sharing stories, celebrating the little moments, and building relationships that grow stronger over time.

Ask what keeps her coming back every day, and the answer comes from the heart: “The residents feel like family.”

That sense of family is at the heart of what we do. It is found in the familiar smiles, the laughter shared throughout the day, and the meaningful connections our Associates build with residents.

We are grateful for Andrea and the care she brings to our community every day.

A breath of fresh air can make a meaningful difference 🍂

Spending time outdoors gives residents the opportunity to enjoy natural light, gentle movement, fresh air, and meaningful connection with the people around them.

Time outside can support engagement, encourage movement, and create opportunities for calm, conversation, and connection. Whether it is taking in the changing season or simply enjoying a quiet moment in the sunshine, these experiences can add purpose and comfort to the day.

Fall gives us the perfect reason to slow down, step outside, and appreciate the moments that make each day meaningful.

"Our family is having an incredible experience with the hospice team from Silverado Hospice LA at Silverado Calabasas memory care, and we are deeply grateful for the compassionate care they are providing to my father.

Two nurses in particular, Deby Lanza and Ina Purcarean, are truly extraordinary. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine compassion mean so much to our entire family during a very difficult time. They treat my dad with such dignity and respect, always taking the time to explain things clearly and making sure he is comfortable.

Deby and Ina go above and beyond not only for my dad but also for our family. They bring a calm, reassuring presence and show such patience, warmth, and empathy in every interaction. It is clear they care deeply about the people they serve.

Hospice care requires a special kind of person, and Deb and Ina embody everything you would hope for in nurses during such an important time.

We are incredibly thankful for the support and care we are receiving from Silverado Hospice LA and will always be grateful for the compassion they show our family." -Dean W. Yelp Review

"I heavily researched hospices in the LA area before deciding on Silverado. They did not disappoint and were about as great as a hospice provider as I could ask for. My sister needed round-the-clock continuous care and they not only provided it, but worked hard against the bureaucracy and red tape of insurance to make sure that my sister had all the care and support she needed. I cannot believe how hard the staff worked to support my sister and my family during this trying time. They were professional, but more importantly, they treated us like fellow human beings. It was that feeling of love and support throughout the process that really made me glad I had chosen them.

Carina (Karina? Sp?) was on the phone and texting me from day 1 to ensure everything went smoothly. It felt like she was working 10-12 hour days for the first 4 days - whenever I needed something or had a question, she got back to me within an hour or two when a lot of things were in motion and I needed that level of coordination.

Daleth was the RN who visited my sister daily to check on her and she worked hard and thought creatively to ensure my sister's continuous care was uninterrupted by insurance's red tape. She was caring, thoughtful, empathetic, and excellent at her job. I felt so fortunate to have her as my sister's case manager.

The staffing agency Silverado used to supply continuous care for my sister was also a godsend. I worried that the nurses sent would be semi-committed or ambivalent about their jobs but they care SO SO much. Isaac checked on my sister like she was his own relative and Maria did the same as well. I couldn't believe there were so many committed and caring staff on the same team, it was all I could hope for.

Thank you again for caring for my sister. Your level of personal commitment and love is so appreciated by all of us." -Brian T. Yelp Review

Happy Nurses Week❣️❣️❣️❣️

This year’s theme, , fits hospice in a very real way. It’s not about big moments; it’s in the everyday work you do.
It’s the way you read a situation the moment you walk in. The way you manage symptoms and keep patients comfortable. The way you support a family that doesn’t know what to expect next. The way you balance clinical judgment with compassion. The way you are able to see patient changes with just your eyes and your heart and address them.

That’s the power of nurses.

Hospice is all about the ups and downs of life, and you are there through it all.

Thank you for the work you do every day.
