Buddy Burners aka "weirdo stoves" can be the difference between a person freezing to death or not. We have heard over the years how these stoves have been the only access to warmth a person has had on a cold night and how incredibly grateful they were to have it. There are many other homemade stove designs out there, however we have gotten direct feedback these are preferred due to their size, not being breakable, and not requiring a fuel source to add from elsewhere.
Made from recycled ingredients and super easy to make, these can be a great winter craft activity with a cause!
You will need:
Cardboard, tuna or cat food cans, only candles or blocks of wax, scissors and a way to measure.
To make:
1) Measure the height of the can and cut the cardboard into strips the width of that can height
2) roll the cardboard tightly and place into the can
3) melt wax over a double boiler and ladle into each can until full.
4)optional: place birthday candles or matches in the stove while it cools for easy lighting later
5) give directly to a neighbor experiencing homelessness or donate to our team for outreach!
