Sunrise Community Of Virginia A private, not-for-profit organization and affiliate of the Sunrise group of companies whose mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities.
We provide services and supports to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities throughout Northern Virginia. Services include: 1. In home Supports 2. Respite 3. Group home living 4. Independent living 5. Sponsored residential living 6. Day Program 7. Community Coaching 8. Community engagement

Ages served: 12 years and above. Dependent upon funding source, type of service requested and location. Areas served: Northern Virginia, Arlington, Alexandra and Fairfax counties In-Home Support: Resources for Independence of Virginia provides training, assistance and specialized supervision to help an individual learn and maintain skills in: daily activities such as personal care; the use of community resources in a safe and meaningful manner; demonstrating appropriate behavior at home and within the community. Resources for Independence provides this assistance to an individual at home or in a group home. Residential Support: Resources for Independence of Virginia provides training, assistance and specialized supervision to help an individual learn or maintain skills in: daily activities such as personal care; the use of community resources in a safe and meaningful manner; and, demonstrating appropriate behavior in an individual’s home or while an individual is in the community utilizing all that the community has to offer. Resources for Independence provides this assistance in an individual’s own home which is usually the family home (In- home supports) or in a group home where an individual may reside with other housemates (congregate setting). Respite Care: Resources for Independence offers services designed to provide temporary, substitute care for that which is normally provided by the family or other unpaid, primary caregiver of an individual. These short-term services may be provided because of the primary caregiver’s absence in an emergency or for the caregiver’s temporary need for relief from providing direct care and support to an individual. Each situation is uniquely addressed by Resources for Independence to ensure that each individual and caregiver’s preferences and needs are met. Drop-In Services: Drop-In Services is a county-funded program to support individuals who live independently. We provide assistance with case management, money management and household tasks, enabling individuals to gain greater independence. Sponsored Residential Program: This service provides individuals the opportunity to live in a private family home (other than individual’s family) while receiving supervision and assistance from members of the same household. Resources For Independence of Virginia ensures that the homes meet state regulations and is responsible for caregiver’s compensation. Resources for Independence of Virginia is licensed and funded through the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and has recently received approval to develop ICF/DD residential homes in the State of Virginia.

Mission: To provide people with disabilities the assistance and support necessary to enable them to live valued lives in the community.
