Fascinating for people with Crohn's and UC: "Physical exercise is a modulator of the intestinal microbiome, causing shifts in its composition that are partially corrective of those observed in IBD; furthermore, physical exercise may be beneficial in patients with certain IBD subtypes."

On a low-FODMAP diet? Try this garlic and shallot oil for gut-friendly flavor.

the Washington Post had an article and recipe on low FODMAP this weekend...looks delicious! I make garlic oil all the time, but haven't tried shallot oil. https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2021/08/22/low-fodmap-cooking-oil-recipe-garlic-shallot/?fbclid=IwAR2tZHsDy0hQD47YZfCPIKEk3ohLIhlOlos4Qp8zQoAwtiRHCBEkrAkrNBI

For those who have to avoid alliums, infusing oil and then carefully straining out the solids can help normalize their cooking again.

Help SIV Afghan Allies

As many of us are seeing, there's currently a big push to move Afghan interpreters and allies to safety ASAP--and many will be relocated to the DC metro area, including Fairfax, VA. There are groups looking to find local people to help with groceries, meals, transportation, donations, etc.
I generally only post on food related issues--since my family fled Iraq in the '50s to escape ethnic cleansing, this is dear to my heart.

this is a perennial question! it is possible to do a low FODMAP vegan or vegetarian elimination, but it's more challenging.

We often get asked for tips for being vegan on a Low FODMAP diet, as many plant-based protein sources are naturally high in FODMAPs. To make sure this diet is nourishing and nutritionally balanced, it's great to be organised and plan ahead to ensure you get enough protein each day. That's why we've put together this handy low FODMAP vegan protein guide to help you out!

As always, we recommend working with a FODMAP trained dietitian when trialing the #lowFODMAP diet, and even more so when you have additional dietary restrictions like following a #vegan diet. A dietitian will help to ensure that you meet all of your nutrient requirements, in particular vitamin B12, iron, calcium, zinc, omega 3 and of course protein.

Remember to check the Monash FODMAP app for serving size info of these foods and many more 🤗 If you're looking for a FODMAP trained dietitian, click here: https://www.monashfodmap.com/online-training/fodmap-dietitians-directory/

Pro-inflammatory Diet Tied to Increased Risk of Breast Cancer

Interesting: A pro-inflammatory diet is linked to breast cancer. "Foods that increase inflammation include red and processed meat; high-fat foods such as butter, margarines and frying fats; and sweets including sugar, honey, and foods high in sugar. Fruits, vegetables, legumes, tea and coffee all have potentially anti-inflammatory properties."

Women consuming a more pro-inflammatory diet are at increased risk for breast cancer, especially premenopausal women, according to new research.
