'Presumed Extinct' Bird Is Found in Indonesia

Sometimes we get good news.

In October 2020, two men living in Indonesia's South Kalimantan province on Borneo managed to catch a bird that they had never seen before. They photographed it, released it and then sent the pictures to birdwatching organizations in the area for identification.

Virtual Field Trip to Stahl Exotic Animal Veterinary Services 2018

New to SEAVS since COVID19 changed all of our lives? We regret that we have not been able to have you join us inside the clinic during the pandemic. We miss you, but we are glad we can still care for your precious kids! To help you see what we look like on the inside (instead of just our parking lot), we are posting this video that was made by Dr Stahl's daughter Macy Stahl back in 2018. Macy was working as an intern at the Seacrest Studio within Children's hospital in Washington DC when she put this video together. The video is broadcast from the studio within the hospital to all the childrens' rooms to help entertain them during their stay. This may help explain doctor Stahl's "Mr. Rogers neighborhood" style in the video(though some of you already know that's just him!).
Enjoy!

It has been super busy here at SEAVS during COVID! To help accommodate the influx of new patients and to make more appointments available for our existing patients, we have added a 6th veterinarian to the SEAVS team!!

We are happy to introduce Dr. Traina! (who started with us in August)

πŸ¦ƒπŸŠπŸ¦”πŸ’πŸ¦œπŸ‡πŸπŸ“πŸπŸΈ

Aubrey Traina, DVM, CVA

Dr. Aubrey Traina is a Louisiana native. At the age of 14, she enrolled in the Aqua Kids Program at the Louisiana Aquarium of the Americas, which introduced her to the amazing world of exotic and aquatic animal medicine. Dr. Traina continued to volunteer in the husbandry department at the Aquarium, along with working as a veterinary technician at Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital of Louisiana throughout undergrad and during veterinary school. She attended the University of New Orleans for undergrad, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in chemistry in 2014.

Dr. Traina graduated from Louisiana School of Veterinary Medicine in 2020 with honors, diversity, and business cords. During vet school, she was the President of the Wildlife, Avian, Zoological and Exotic Medicine Club (WAZEM) and the Veterinarians as One Inclusive Community for Empowerment (VOICE). Dr. Traina was also a Raptor Co-Chair with the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana where she rehabilitated and cared for birds of prey. In 2019, she was the first place recipient of the ZuPreem National Exotic Medicine Scholarship. Dr Traina is also an acupuncturist! She attended the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine during vet school and received her Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist License in 2019.

Dr. Traina loves working with all exotic companion animals, especially avian and aquatic species and plans to complete her training to become board certified in avian medicine.
Growing up, her family had a mini menagerie including parakeets, hamsters, millipedes, sugar gliders, salt- water tanks and even a pot-bellied pig that was house trained! Dr. Traina is passionate about exotic animal medicine because she feels there is always something new to learn and it often requires you to think outside of the box.

In her free time, Dr. Traina loves to scuba dive, hike, bike and is an avid Saint’s football fan. Her personal critters include her German Shepard dog, Letty; Siamese mixed-breed cat, Binx; and her adorable axolotls Benny, Jette, Chernobyl β€œCherry” and Newt. Being raised in the South, it should be no surprise that her favorite food and season is… crawfish!!

Posting this as a board member of the VA Herpetological Society: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella illness linked to contact with pet bearded dragons. More information about the outbreak is available here. At least one Virginia resident has become ill in association with this outbreak. As such, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and state partner agencies have been helping support the outbreak investigation and subsequent public health response. ................ Please practice good hygiene around beardies and all pets.
As the orginal owner and breeder, I would like to reach out and personally thank the team that tried to save Colby the Sebastopol Goose. You all tried your very best with many unknowns. Thank you for your communication with the owner and your dedication to doing your best.
