Blossom ABA Teaching Ideas

Check out one family's success story with ABA!

For the first time today, we could sit in the cafe and observe little man and his big sister play in the pool from behind the glass wall. Interesting analogy to think that, this time, we were the ones behind the glass wall and my little man was out there, enjoying life to the full. Unaware of where he once was. Just moving on.

The pool has a shallow end but he prefers the deep end. Little man has progressed enough in swimming now that he can keep his goggles on, dive, swim albeit not perfectly, swim under water and not drawn.

He no longer runs around the edge. He is no longer a danger to himself or others. We can sit and have coffee. No more stares at the pool from others or judgmental looks. No more advice from strangers. Relief and happiness :).

Our little man is 8.

3.5 years of ABA later and we got there with the pool. He's been fine for a while but we could truly witness it today. I'm not worried that he can't go up levels because he can't do perfect strokes and finds it hard to follow some instructions from his teacher. We have a way to go but he's safe and loves water. To me this is the picture of perfection. We will go back to teaching him more advanced swimming skills once we deal with other issues of more urgent concern.

One less worry crossed off our list of socially significant concerns. One more life skill mastered. One more door open to my little man. :)

The more we teach him the verbal behaviour of our community, the more predictable his behaviour is when we are out nowadays.

We could see short term positive changes straight away initially but some of the long term goals are only happening now.

Hang on in there, especially if you're feeling a bit defeated right now and keep interventions consistent. Do your bit after sessions so your child can get the best out of his recommended programmes.

Development is not as quick for some children and outcome depends on many variables but as long as our kids continue progressing with efficient interventions, we continue motivated to keep going. :)

I ❤️ ABA!
