As we trek on in this final week of October🍂🍁 we would now like to show appreciation to our very own Melissa Weaver, PT

We were fortunate enough to have Melissa join our team in March of 2019! She has been with us the longest and for good reason, she aligns very well with our core values here at Allied Health Solutions “Providing the best one-on-one, hands-on care in a relaxed and friendly environment.”

So now, what does Melissa like doing outside of Allied Health Solutions? We will give you a hint, it involves vision and creativity! 👀🧠

"When I'm not in the clinic, I like expressing myself through different hobbies including photography📸 which allows me to be creative, to explore different areas, and to meet interesting people. I have a preference for cars, dogs, and street photography but like to try photographing all different subjects."

So now, what does Patricia like doing outside of Allied Health Solutions? We will give you a hint, it involves family. Below are a few words from her!

“I love camping with my family!⛺This picture was taken while camping at Assateague Island. We all love playing in the water, building sand castles, searching for shells, and listening to the waves as we fall asleep in our tent. Then it’s back out to the beach for the sunrise!🌅”

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - Allied Health Solutions

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, We have all heard of it! actually probably not all of us but that's okay though! because this weeks blog is all about carpal tunnel syndrome. Click the link below to learn about carpal tunnel and how our OTD Emily can lend a helping "hand"🤝👋 in addressing this common issue.

The ComboCare by Richmar

This Tuesday we have a very intracte piece of tech📟 that will "Shock"⚡️ you with its many uses. The tech is called the ComboCare, it is a device that we really enjoy using. The ComboCare is a 2-channel device that combines Clinical ultrasound therapy as well as 5 electrotherapy treatment waveforms: IFC,Premod, Russian, EMS and TENS waveform. It features an advanced operating system that enables the therapist to set treatment parameters and monitor progress. What we really appreciate about this piece of tech is Its portable design which allows the therapist to move it from place to place with ease and without inconvenience.

Below are the 5 waveforms produced by the ComboCare as well as descriptions for each.

IFT (Interferential Therapy)is primarily focused on utilizing the physiologicaportable iftl effects of low frequency (

StepRight Stability Trainer Footwear

On this week's Tech Tuesday we have the Stability Trainer Footwear made by Stepright
The stability trainers are a vital piece of equipment which can be implemented in various injury rehabilitation routines.

The Stepright Balance Trainer is a device that's designed to improve joint and proprioception control while helping rehabilitate individuals with injuries. They are great for rehabbing from injuries such as ankle sprains, ACL reconstructions, falls, dizziness, and vertigo issues.

The principles of StepRight Stability trainer footwear are based on the idea that replicating real world function can improve both functional movement and balance. StepRight was designed by a pair of physical therapists to help those who have an impaired quality of life, reduced physical performance, or for athletes looking to take their balance and coordination to a new level.

In the video we have Madhura performing a side lunge with the StepRight trainers on. You may notice a bit of shaking in the ankle area, this shaking is normal and primarily caused by stabilizing muscles working out. The more you practice your balance and coordination the less shaking will occur.

The following individuals below can benefit greatly from StepRight:

- Athletes and Fitness Enthusiasts
- Health and Wellness Population
- Musculoskeletal and Orthopedic injury rehabilitation
- Neuromuscular disorders effecting (affecting) balance and coordination
- Vestibular Disorders
- Geriatric fall prevention, balance, and gait training
- Those with coordination and motor development delay
- Those training for Obstacle Course Racing (Spartan, Tough Mudder, Etc)

Tennis Elbow - Allied Health Solutions

Its a bird!🐦 its a plane!✈️ ohhh wait no its just tennis elbow....🎾💪

It sure has been a while since we have posted a blog but the wait is now over! this weeks blog is about a very common injury known as tennis elbow. Funny enough most people who get tennis elbow do not actually play tennis, less than 5% of tennis elbow cases occur in people who play tennis(ChoosePT)

In the blog we discuss what tennis elbow is, how it manifests and how PT cant help with recovery.

https://www.allied-hs.com/tennis-elbow/

Tennis Elbow or Lateral Epicondylitis is a condition caused by overuse of the extensor muscles in your arm and forearm specifically where the tendons attach to the rounded portion of bone (epicondyles) on the outside aspect of the elbow.

Hydraulic hand dynamometer by Baseline

On this week's tech Tuesday we would like to show you another very important piece of equipment used not only for hand therapy but for recording other parameters of progress in PT and OT. This device is the Hydraulic hand dynamometer by Baseline. The hydraulic hand dynamometer is used to give accurate grip strength readings without the patient being able to "feel" the handle move. Our therapists love the efficiency and ease of use of the dynamometer. The model that we have is the internationally accepted design which ensures reliability, user convenience and measurement repeatability. The five position handle and body design yield results that are consistent with published Baseline and Jamar studies.

Here's a cool Fact, Baseline Products have been a trusted name in measurement and evaluation instruments all over the world since 1974. If you have ever received therapy after an injury, you have probably had your progress tested and measured with a Baseline measurement instrument!

Happy fall equinox! today, September 22nd marks the first day of Autumn !

An unknown but wise person once said

“Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go.”

This quote hits us hard at Allied Health Solutions because we see this happen all the time with our patients. Many come with discomfort that has been present in their lives for a long time but seeing the motivation that our patients have and their willpower to let go of the discomfort and put their best foot forward — Now this is what motivates us.

Here's to letting go and embracing what's to come! Happy Fall everyone!

Today on Tech Tuesday we would like to present to you the GRIPMASTER by Prohands. The GRIPMASTER is a very important piece of equipment used by our Occupational therapist and Physical Therapists. This tool is specifically used for hand rehabilitation.

This tool is used by professional athletes, world-class musicians, and as a rehabilitation tool. It is made from high-quality components: ABS plastic, stainless steel springs and FDA-approved santoprene. With Prohands you can exercise each finger individually, or the entire hand. Use each button independently to exercise fingers or compress the entire unit for complete hand and forearm strengthening. By isolating each digit, stronger fingers can’t compensate for the weaker ones. Allowing the user to isolate and exercise each finger individually for strength, dexterity, and endurance. Helping to develop outstanding hand, wrist and forearm strength. This tool is ideal for anyone wanting to develop and maintain strong healthy hands and may also help with arthritis, carpal tunnel, neuropathy, and poor circulation.

Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, is caused by inflammation of the muscles of the forearm that attach to the elbow. It’s usually a result of inflammation of the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon. Symptoms of tennis elbow develop gradually over a period of weeks or months as a result of repeated or forceful use of the wrist, hand, and elbow. Your symptoms may include: - Pain that radiates into your forearm and wrist - Difficulty doing common tasks, such as turning a doorknob or holding a coffee cup - Difficulty with gripping activities - Increased pain when you use your wrist and hand for lifting objects, opening a jar, or gripping something tightly, such as a knife and fork - Stiffness in the elbow - Weakness in the forearm, wrist, or hand Below are some exercises you could do at home to help rehabilitate tennis elbow: 1. Fist clench -- Poor grip strength is a common symptom of tennis elbow. Improving grip strength by building the muscles of the forearm can help improve ability to perform daily activities. 2. Supination with a dumbell -- The supinator muscle is a large muscle of the forearm that attaches into the elbow. It’s responsible for turning the palm upward and is often involved in movements that can cause tennis elbow. 3. Wrist extension -- The wrist extensors are a group of muscles that are responsible for bending the wrist, like during the hand signal for stop. These small muscles that connect into the elbow are often subject to overuse, especially during racquet sports. 4. Wrist Flexion -- The wrist flexors are a group of muscles that work opposite the wrist extensors. These small muscles that connect into the elbow are also subject to overuse, leading to pain and inflammation.
As the days grow warmer, people tend to exercise outdoors more. Here are a few tips to help you keep cool while helping you stay in shape this summer. 1. Drink a LOT of water during and after exercise. Dehydration is a serious condition that can cause many other problems. 2. Wear sunscreen 3. Adjust your timing- Early in the morning or late at night are cooler times during the day. If you have to exercise outside, chose these times instead. 4. Dress appropriately- wear moisture wicking clothing that is loose fitting and can let your body breathe. 5. Go swimming- its great exercise and cools you down!
