Dear Friends,
A few nights ago, under the Harvest Moon, I went outside to create a mandala from flowers, leaves, berries and pieces of the earth around me.
And it was windy.
Really windy.
I would place something, step back, and watch the wind move it. And I would fix it. Rebuild it. Try again.
And eventually I realized how much this little practice was reflecting my life.
I could keep trying to put everything exactly where I thought it was supposed to go…
or I could let the wind be part of it.
So I let go.
The center remained, and this is the photo I keep coming back to.
We have just crossed the threshold of the Autumn Equinox, a moment of balance between light and dark, and moved through the Harvest Moon—a time that invites us to notice what has grown, what we’re gathering, and perhaps what we’re no longer meant to carry forward.
And now we move toward Venus retrograde.
In astrology, Venus speaks to relationship, love, beauty, pleasure, values and worth. A retrograde period is often approached as a time of review rather than simply pushing forward—looking again at our relationships with others, yes, but also our relationship with our bodies, our work, our creativity, our homes, our practices, and ourselves.
Does the life we’re living still reflect who we are becoming?
I’ve been sitting with that question a lot.
This season of my life has asked me to change in ways I didn’t choose. It has also deepened my relationship with my body, my practice, the earth, my work and the community around me.
And some days, that growth feels beautiful.
Some days it feels heavy.
Spiritual practice doesn’t make life easy. Yoga doesn’t make hard things disappear. Meditation doesn’t mean we never feel scared, angry, tired or overwhelmed.
Practice gives us somewhere to meet ourselves inside of those things.
Maybe October isn’t asking us to do more.
Maybe it’s asking us to deepen.
To make ten minutes for ourselves instead of waiting for an entire free afternoon. To move our bodies. Sit on the earth. Breathe. Get stronger. Rest. Receive. Ask for help. Make something with our hands. Light a candle. Notice what we’re holding onto simply because it used to belong there.
What happens if we stop trying to rebuild everything exactly as it was?
Maybe we tend the center.
Maybe we trust that some things can blow away.
And maybe we become curious about what remains.
What’s happening at Wild Root
There are lots of ways to practice together as we move deeper into fall.
Strong + Grounded continues Thursday mornings from 9:00–10:15 — strength, functional movement, balance and yoga woven together with time to breathe, reconnect and, always, Savasana.
Another Strong + Grounded will be coming on Tuesday afternoons.
I’m also available for private Integrative Movement sessions, bringing together movement, breath, strength, body awareness and energy practices to help you build balance, strength, confidence and trust in your body.
I’m offering intuitive energy sessions, sound healing, restorative aerial yoga and (peri)menopause coaching, as well as private and small-group sessions. If you aren’t quite sure which practice fits where you are right now, reach out. We can figure that out together.
October 17 — Kerri Fleming
Kerri returns to Wild Root for craniosacral/bodywork sessions. Reach out to Kerri directly for availability.
October 31 — Between the Veils: Samhain at Wild Root
We’ll spend the day with healing offerings from 10–3, followed by our Samhain ceremony from 3:30–5:00. We’ll honor the end of the harvest, the turning of the wheel, the thinning of the veil, and the cycles of release, death and rebirth.
November 14 — Gathering with High Vibe Chicks
More details coming soon, but save the date.
November 21 — Kerri Fleming returns
Another opportunity for craniosacral/bodywork before we move into the holiday season.
There is a lot happening at Wild Root, but underneath all of it is the same intention:
A place to come as you are.
A place to practice.
A place to reconnect with your body.
A place to be witnessed.
A place to tend the center while life rearranges itself around you.
A place to notice what remains when the wind blows.
With love,
Monica
