Victory Over Japan Day: End of WWI

End of World War II was a great day for our country and those who joined together to defeat a common enemy. If you know a service member who fought at this time, please thank them for their service!

V-J Day, or Victory over Japan Day, marks the end of World War II, one of the deadliest and most destructive wars in history. When President Harry S. Truman announced on Aug. 14, 1945, that Japan had surrendered unconditionally, war-weary citizens around the world erupted in celebration.

The U.S. Marine Corps recruited young Navajos in 1942 to serve in the Pacific during World War II, so they could utilize their native language. They would use this as a code that would be difficult to crack by the enemy. President Ronald Reagan honored the Navajos by declaring August 14th as “National Navajo Code Talker Day.” #FactFriday

#ArmyMedicine would like to recognize today to honor the @UScoastguard. In 1790, Congress, guided by Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton, authorized the building of a fleet of ten cutters, and would be responsible for the enforcement of the first tariff laws enacted by Congress under the Constitution. Today, the Coast Guard has continuously been at seas since with active duty personnel, civilians, and reservists.
