Sinus Tachycardia (ST) and Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) 🫀

Sinus Tachycardia - Just like Normal Sinus Rhythm EXCEPT heart rate is above 100
Regular rhythm
Rate - > 100
PR interval - Normal
QRS complex - Normal
Treatment - treat underlying cause (examples - fluids for dehydration or tylenol for fever)

Supraventricular Tachycardia - Just like Sinus tachycardia EXCEPT rate is typically over 150 and no pwaves
Regular rhythm
Rate - 150 and over
PR interval - nonexistant due to no P waves. Rhythm is so fast that P waves are hidden
QRS complex - normal
Treatment - Valsalva maneuver or adenosine for stable SVT, Cardioversion for no response to adenosine or unstable SVT

Sinus Bradycardia (SB) 🫀

Rhythm is just like Normal Sinus Rhythm EXCEPT heart rate is less than 60 beats a minutes!

Regular
Rate - < 60
PR interval = normal (0.12 - .19)
QRS = normal ( < .09)

Stable until it becomes symptomatic (hypotension, diaphoretic, pale, etc.)
Treatment if symptomatic - Atropine and treat underlying cause (example - warm patient up if hypothermic)

May be normal for patient! Especially athletes

EKGs 🫀

One of my favorite things in nursing are EKGs! BUT it took me alot of practice to be able to interpret them like i can now.

One thing that helps me is visualizing what the heart is actually doing during the rhythm!

Down below is what the heart does during Normal Sinus Rhythm

P-Wave = Atria contracts
QRS = Ventricles contract while atria relaxes
T-wave = ventricles relax

Le Fort fractures 💀

These are trauma injuries and classified based on the location of the fracture

Memory aid -
Le Fort I - floating palate / horizonal
Le Fort II - floating maxilla / pyramidal
Le Fort III - floating face / transverse

Signs - Spoon face (lying flat the patient's face will cave in) and Donkey face (leaning forward the patient's lower face will bulge out)

# 1 Priority is to SECURE THE AIRWAY.
Remember - NO NG tubes for facial trauma patients!!
Have you guys seen one?
