👅 Your child’s tongue looks like a map… should you be worried?
It might be something called geographic tongue, and it’s actually pretty common!
Those strange red patches might look scary, but here’s what you should know. 👇
✅ Usually harmless
✅ Not contagious
✅ Patches can change shape or move around
✅ Most kids don’t need treatment
🔬 Fun science fact: Your tongue is covered in tiny bumps called papillae. With geographic tongue, some of these bumps temporarily disappear, leaving smooth, red patches that can look like little islands on a map!
Some kids may notice burning or stinging when eating spicy, salty, or acidic foods.
🚩 When should you worry?
Have your child checked if they have:
* Significant pain
* Trouble eating or drinking
* Sores that bleed or don’t heal
* A spot that stays unchanged for more than two weeks
The good news? Most cases come and go on their own without causing any problems!
❤️ Save this for the next time you notice something unusual in your child’s mouth!
