Sometimes, you don’t realize how much you’ve been tolerating until you finally stop and ask yourself, “Why did I ever think I deserved this?”
Trauma can teach you to normalize things that were never normal.
It can make you excuse disrespect, stay quiet when you’re hurt, and accept crumbs because, somewhere along the way, you learned that love meant enduring.
You become so good at understanding everyone else that you forget to understand yourself. But healing changes that.
You begin to recognize the difference between compassion and self-abandonment. Between giving someone grace and giving them permission to keep hurting you.
And slowly, you learn that protecting your peace isn’t selfish.
Sometimes healing looks like finally saying, "I love you, but I love myself enough to stop accepting what hurts me.”
