The Great New York State Fair got a little greater this year… with Momentum Refresh!

If you have ever traveled with someone in a wheelchair (or if you are in one yourself), you know that finding a public bathroom big enough for a hoyer lift, a wheelchair and 1-2 standing people is next to impossible. With Momentum Refresh, the fear of not finding a bathroom is completely eliminated. This mobile van includes:

- a wheelchair lift to enter the van
- plenty of room
- adjustable height handrails
- a track and trolley lift system
- a changing table big enough for an adult
- a toilet with a bidet
- adjustable height sink
- a foot activated flush with a depressor stick
- a shower head if needed!

When I’m in public, the fear of needing to use the bathroom urgently is always lingering in my mind. I limit how much I drink. If this became a more widespread amenity in our area, it would widen my world so much more.

In the meantime, they are located on Belle Isle Ave. If you are at the fair and need a bathroom, give it a try!

I know you know someone this could benefit, so why not share it for them? 💖

Today, I went to Green Lakes. They have an all-terrain wheelchair that was donated to the park. I decided to try it out in the water. It floats! It was a very cool experience.

In order to get this chair, we went to the lifeguard station and gave our name and number. Transferring was done by my own personal hoyer lift and sling, but it may be easier for some people to manually transfer in. The wheelchair footrest area is very narrow and may not be suitable for people who can’t move their feet well. My feet got uncomfortable after a while on land. The wheelchair does not offer much support for the neck or torso so I had to be repositioned and pushed over a lot. In the water, I could put my face under the water on my back which required a lot of neck strength to keep my head out of the water.

This is my personal experience and might be different from other people’s with different abilities.

Very glad I got to utilize this wheelchair and take a dip in Green Lake. The wheelchair is first-come, first-serve so I’d suggest getting there around 11 if you want guaranteed access. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

You probably know someone with a physical disability, why not share this post so more people are aware of this awesome piece of equipment? 🎊
