Sweating is the main mechanism of expelling toxins from the body - BPA, heavy metals, pesticides, solvents are all impurities we are inevitably exposed to on a daily basis. These compounds can cause hormonal imbalances, neurological issues, and other metabolic distress.⠀

A good way to promote sweating is with Sauna; sauna induces thermal stress which can increase lipolysis (fat cell destruction). Many toxins (such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), pesticides, and solvents) can be stored in fat cells (lipids). Lipolysis therefore assists in mobilizing toxins from fat cells and thus promotes excretion of these impurities through sweat [1-3]⠀

Another good way to sweat is via exercise. By moving your muscles, you use your body's own pumping mechanism of moving toxins through your lymphatic system, ultimately helping to eliminate pesticides and heavy metals [4-6].⠀

You are probably resonating with most, if not all of these factors - but here are some of the reasons my patients have the issues above: ⠀

🫐 They don't eat whole, real foods (Yes, that would be the produce section of the grocery store!)⠀
🛏 They don't realize they need more sleep - If you can "function" off of 6 hours, think of what 8 will feel like!⠀
🧘 They haven't found ways to reduce stress - I say go outside, make time for your hobbies, exercise. I cannot stress this enough (pun intended)!⠀
🩺 They have not had their gut symptoms checked - I find most often my patients have an imbalance of gut flora or leaky gut, or both.⠀
💊 They are not on a good quality multivitamin - if it is has a colored coating, that's NOT a good quality⠀

Healthy.⠀

Electrical devices (phones, TVs, computer, florescent lightning, synthetic materials and fabrics) give off positive ions in the air [5]; so in a sense, our environment may be over saturated by positive ions, whereas humans need a balance between positive and negative ions to flourish. This imbalance can make us have lower energy, feel crazy, and depressed.⠀

Heated salt lamps emit negative ions that restore and neutralize air quality. One study showed that brain tryptophan and 5-HT (serotonin) metabolism were increased after salt lamp exposure for 14 days in rats [1]. Negative air ions have been significantly associated with lower depression ratings [4], declared an effective treatment of chronic depression [2] and seasonal depression (aka season affective disorder) [3]. ⠀

Why are you not sleeping?
👍🏼Discontinue screen time 2 hours before bed – the light from your phone WILL inhibit melatonin secretion in your brain
👎🏼Do not fall asleep with the TV on – this is the worst thing you can do for the quality of your sleep. Try an app to play “white noise” instead. This will also help block any other noises from waking you.
👍🏼Avoid caffeinated beverages after lunch
👍🏼Avoid alcohol near bedtime – this turns to sugar in your blood, causing reactive hypoglycemia, leading you to wake during the night due to low blood sugar 👎🏼
Bottom line: make sure your bedroom is your sanctuary for sleep! ✨Don’t “hangout” in your bed during the day, use your bedroom for sleep and naps only.
