June is World Infertility Awareness Month which is a time to increase awareness regarding the numerous infertility issues faced by couples around the world. About 10 percent of women (6.1 million) in the United States ages 15-44 have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). To Epidural or to not Epidural? That is a question so many struggle with. To help you decide, we have answered some basic questions about what they are and how they work. What is it? Epidural anesthesia is a way to relieve labor pain. This is a type of anesthesia where pain medication is injected near the lower spine or backbone. What will it do? If will numb your body below the injection. This lets you stay awake during labor, but more comfortable without pain. It will still allow you to feel the pressure to push and deliver your baby How do I opt in or out for one? You can decide when you go into labor and arrive to the hospital. Ask your medical staff once youâre admitted.
