hi besties, so life has been a dumpster fire the last 2 months 😃

I wanted to share a bit about it & how I’m showing up during a time like this, since I know that it’s super easy to stop taking care of yourself during these situations & to see your health downward spiral in the midst of chaos.

At the start of April, my grandpa who is the rock of our family spent almost 2 weeks in the hospital & has been in an SNF ever since.

The physical & emotional stress this put on our family rocked our world to say the least, but he’s making it through & will be home next week.

At the end of April, my uncle was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident from a reckless driver — which was hands down the most traumatizing thing I’ve ever witnessed.

His Celebration of Life was on Sunday. As hard as it was, it brought me lot of peace being in a building filled with family, friends & a sea of leather jackets + riding gear seeing how loved he was & always will be🖤

Anyways, times like these are hard.

I feel like I haven’t “showed up” as my best self for the people that rely on me. Like I’m not doing enough. I feel like I’m constantly playing catch-up. And that “things just keep happening”.

At the end of the day, life DOES just keep happening though. It always will. You can either go with the flow or fight against it.

It’s the most stressful times of life when you tend to struggle with your health the most — where you gain the most weight, or stop eating altogether, or develop hormone issues, or start losing hair, or start noticing all these symptoms arising.

I know this all too well having Hashimotos where stress can instantly send you into a flare-up & your thyroid into total chaos, then you realize you just gained 10 lbs in a month. 🥲

Notes for the sensitive ones —

I am NOT anti conventional medicine. I am NOT anti doctors.

The medical system SAVES lives. Medications SAVE lives.

But that does not mean there are not so many systemic flaws, especially when it comes to women’s hormone & gut health.

Especially when it comes to ignoring optimal/functional living — but instead — treating patients like a piece of paper to “fix their labs” & not treating the root causes beneath the surface

… which keeps them STUCK in a hamster wheel of never figuring out whats actually wrong.

The pieces you’re missing when it comes to your acne ⬇️

NOW DON’T GET ME WRONG —

Your skincare still matters. Using products with non pore clogging ingredients, proper skin hygiene, cleaning makeup brushes, consistency w/ routine, etc. ALL still have an impact

BUT

Acne is nearly always a sign of INTERNAL DYSBIOSIS.

⚡️ Underlying Gut Issues

ex. Bacterial overgrowth, candida infection, H pylori, leaky gut, SIBO, parasites, low stomach acid & digestive enzyme production are HUGE causes of acne.

this leads to inflammation, poor nutrient absorption, hormone imbalances & hindered detox pathways

these issues are what we identify in a GI MAP where we can then enter proper phases of healing.

⚡️ Poor Liver Detoxification (HUGE!!!)

a sluggish liver slows down detoxing from toxins & excess hormones, which creates more dysfunction > leads to more oil production on the skin > further impacts hormone health which then flares acne even more

If you have any gut/hormone issues at bay, we ALWAYS focus on the liver.

⚡️ Inflammation

lowest hanging fruits for improvement here are: eat a cleaner diet, 25-35g fiber daily, 8hrs sleep, eliminate ultra processed foods, drink more water, walk 8-10K steps daily & start weightlifting, add in supporting supplements like turmeric + ginger + omega 3 fish oil, and lots of healthy fats

⚡️ Hormone Imbalances

the most obvious one we all know of when it comes to acne. the top ones I see in clients are estrogen dominance, low progesterone, high testosterone / androgens, and cortisol dysregulation.

Which can ALL be supported with our 1-1 functional healing approaches always customized to the person.

The realest question you could ever ask yourself is… at what “cost” have you finally had enough?

You feel heart broken every time you pick yourself to pieces looking at your body or skin for too long in the mirror.

You feel insecurities you’ve never thought you’d feel, and its impacting your relationship, career, your self-worth.

You feel so sporadically bloated & inflamed that you have to try on 5 different outfits before you go out to dinner (& that’s if you don’t just say f*ck it, im not going).

You feel constantly disappointed in yourself bc you promise things are going to be different this time, & then you never stick with it.

You feel like a hormonal wreck with stubborn weight gain, breakouts, hair loss, fatigue, and you’re at your breaking point.

You know your lifestyle is impacting your family.
