You're probably already feeling that tad bit of brisk air in the mornings (except here in Arizona 😆), telling you autumn is around the corner. To get into the spirit, plan ahead by tossing a soup or stew in the crockpot for you to cook and freeze. That way, you can have a delicious meal ready to thaw and enjoy, and you can even have a bowl today to get you in the spirit of autumn.

Here are a few of my favorite soups or stew recipes White Bean Enchilada soup, Albondigas, and Sweet Potato bean chili.

Have you ever heard of ashwagandha?

Ashwagandha is a popular adaptogen used in Ayurveda, and its benefits are tremendous. It's known as a stress buster that benefits the adrenals, and with daily use, it can help lower your stress response, among other things.

Ashwagandha can help to lower cortisol levels, help to reduce inflammation, can help to lower cholesterol levels, and much more. It truly is an incredible herb to add to your regimen.

You can consume it in daily capsules, as a tincture, and drink it as a tea. As always, make sure to speak with your doctor about starting any new supplements.

08/17/2021

For those of us with Hashimoto’s, we tend to have to deal with a Fatty Liver, which makes us struggle with excess weight or high blood sugar. Having a Fatty Liver can make it more difficult for our body to automatically detox our systems and promotes inflammation. It can also increase gallstones and heart attack risk.
Rather than cutting fat, the actual problem is too much sugar and carbs. The reason for this is because sugar, especially high-fructose corn syrup in soda and junk foods, signals the liver to produce more fat.
Along with managing Hashimoto’s with functional medicine, if necessary, you can reverse fatty liver by adopting a lower-carb, sugar free diet, exercise daily, avoid alcohol and unnecessary medications, lower your inflammation by removing foods from your diet that promote inflammation such as gluten and dairy, take natural anti-inflammatory compounds such as high doses of emulsified turmeric and resveratrol, glutathione, vitamin D, etc., and detox your liver with herbs and compounds that support detoxification.

Do a quick body check-in. Notice where you are holding your tension and let it go. Unclench your jaw, release your shoulders, and take a long, deep breath.

Making sure you're breathing deeply can take some practice, and an excellent way to get yourself into the habit is to do these check-ins throughout the day. You could even set the alarm on your phone for 5x a day so that it prompts you to check in with yourself and feel where you are holding your tension and allow yourself to release it.

Detoxification is a natural process of the body, and one that’s going on all the time without our awareness, much like how our lungs breathe and our hearts beat without us paying attention.
Your liver, lungs, skin, and kidneys are your body’s primary detoxification organs. Each one plays a specific role in moving toxic substances out of our system. However, in today’s day and age, it can be hard for our bodies to keep up. We have food that’s overly processed, polluted air, water that isn’t pure and pristine, and our bodies can get overwhelmed. And when our bodies get overwhelmed, those toxic chemicals no longer get flushed out and instead get stored in our body tissue.
The best way to get rid of toxins is by decreasing the number of toxins we’re exposed to and giving our body a break from ingesting new chemicals and toxins. During that break, we can mobilize the existing toxic substances and dump them into the bloodstream, so they can be expelled. In and of itself, this is a huge step toward healing our bodies.
Detoxing your body helps you lose weight for good, get better sleep, gain TONS of energy, and clear up problem skin.
Have you done a detox before? Let me know how it went and what your experience was!

If you've found it challenging to change your eating habits, I want to encourage you. A trap we can easily fall into is if we don't do something 100%, we aren't doing it right. But that's not how we have to do things, and it could be what's keeping you stuck.

Start small, where you can, right now. Focus on building one new habit, and once you start seeing change there, add in a new habit. This is called habit stacking, and it works.

One simple thing you can commit to right now is to add leafy greens or some type of green vegetable to your meals at lunch and dinner. Eat something green twice a day.

Seems simple enough, right? That's because it is!
Healthy habits start small and build upon each other.

Are you deficient in Vitamin D and looking for ways to add more into your body?
Low vitamin D is estimated to affect 13% of the world’s population and is a major public health across the globe. While the amount is up for debate between the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and the U.S. Endocrine Society, it is best avoid going over 4,000 IU. However, if you are working with a medical professional they may have you exceed this dosage as necessary for a short amount of time.
The main ways to get more Vitamin D is with sunlight, fatty fish and seafood, mushrooms, egg yolks, fortified foods, and supplements.
