In performance, there are many things that promote success, sport specific skill, natural ability, luck, mental toughness, and many many more things. However, in competition, what pushes you past the point of pain, and beyond the horizon of suffering to success? I thought about this a lot as I was watching the French Open this last weekend. Both players can hit groundstrokes, can volley, serve, and both are in very good shape. They both are separated by such a small percentage when it comes to sport skill, however what drove Novak passed the finish line, when he was down 2 sets, to go on and win the tournament, to be the 2nd player ever to win all four majors twice, second to Rob Laver. Well let me second what Rodger Federer said when he was asked what is more important, experience or confidence... and quickly replied "confidence." Confidence is what kept Novak pushing forward, Confidence in his body, in his game, and in his ability.

Did you know your Gut plays a huge role in your health and the health of so many different organs and systems? From your brain, skin, to even your sleep... having poor gut health can affect so many areas of your life and if left untreated can lead to serious disease. Endurance - Lets talk about it!

A lot of people get Stamina and Endurance mixed up.

Stamina - Stamina is defined as the mental and physical ability to sustain activity for a certain period of time.

Endurance - Endurance refers to your physical bodies capacity to sustain exercise for a certain period. Endurance has two parts cardiovascular endurance and muscle endurance.

Tips to Improve Both:
1. SAID Principle (Specific Adaption to Imposed Demands) - which means your body will adapt to exercise it regularly performs. So change it up! HIIT some days, slow sustained others, long and short distance at varying speeds.

2. Overload Principle - which means you gradually increase either volume or intensity.

3. Stay hydrated - which does not necessarily mean drinking a gallon of water per day or certain oz per body weight. There is a balance and everyone is different.

4. Get plenty of rest.

Yea....it's Wellness Wednesday! did you know that while the mind and the body separate systems, they both work together to provide optimum health and wellness. As a movement specialist, when it comes to things like physical rehabilitation, recovery, movement, performance, healing, weight loss, or even just feeling good overall. Both of these systems must be taken into account. Here are some simple tips to help keep these things running optimally.

> Eat a good balanced healthy diet with plenty of veggies and
fruit. (Helps provide and replenish vital vitamins and minerals)
> Drink plenty of water (Helps in detoxification, transportation,
and hydration that is essential for good health.)
> Get plenty of essential fatty acids, either through foods or
through supplementation. Essential fatty acids are need to
transports certain vitamins like Vitamin A, D, E. and K.
> Find 20 mins in your day to relax, things like meditation, yoga,
and even those apps like "Calm" are great.
> Detox the body and the mind. Healthy eating and plenty of
water are some ways to help detox the body, but breathing
exercises also do a great job. Beware! Don't get fooled into
buying some product claiming to detox you unless you do your
research first! Secondly, to detox the mind.. I recommend a
digital detox. Choose one day a week, Sundays are great! but
whatever works for you, to put away phones, computers, and all
screens and choose to spend time with family, or spend time.

I come from a long line of family members who have served in the military. Their examples have taught me the important of service, whether it's serving our communities and the people in our communities, our family, or serving our Country. As I think about my role, as a husband, father, business owner, and US citizen. I am honored to get to serve those I around me.

So to all those who have served, are serving currently, and who will serve. I want to say thank you, to you and your families, for your service and sacrifice.

I would also like to say "Thank You" to all the first responders, care takers, and to all those who have given of their selves to help those in need during this pandemic.

Fridays are the best... One of my favorite things to do is to go on family adventures and to explore places I haven't gone, and to do things I haven't done.

My kids were so awesome on this adventure because even though the terrain was not very forgiving for mountain biking, they did not give up and pushed through the entire time. We saw some pretty cool wildlife, and the views were amazing. Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have an amazing weekend. I would love to hear about what are some of your favorite things to do.
