Before National Diabetes Awareness Month, let’s make blood-sugar awareness a family conversation. 🩺
Blood sugar is glucose, the energy your body gets from food. Type 2 diabetes usually develops gradually over years, and prediabetes often has no noticeable symptoms. That’s why routine screening and regular healthcare visits matter.
Risk factors may include a family history of type 2 diabetes, older age, higher body weight, low physical activity, high blood pressure or cholesterol, smoking, a history of gestational diabetes or delivering a baby over 9 pounds, and polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS).
Some people may notice increased thirst, frequent urination, unusual tiredness, blurry vision, slow-healing sores, or tingling in the hands or feet. These signs can have many causes, please discuss them with a qualified healthcare professional rather than self-diagnosing.
Small, consistent steps add up: 🥦 Build meals around vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and beans. Choose water instead of sugary drinks. Take a short walk after meals, move regularly in ways your family enjoys, protect sleep, and find healthy ways to manage stress. Make changes together so no one feels singled out. Know your family history and keep recommended screenings on track. It’s never too late to make a change.
Which small everyday habit could your family add this week? 💛
