Crying.
😢
It helps with emotional regulation and acts as a means of communication. It is a visual representation your body makes of pain, sorrow, heartbreak, anger, happiness, joy… raw emotion we often can’t control. Sometimes tears flow easier when we feel safe. I can’t say the amount of people that have sat across from me and apologized for crying in their therapy session. I’ve done it myself. It’s a vulnerable state, crying in front of someone, yet when you cry in the presence of someone and they can sit with that raw emotion and be a genuine witness of your pain or joy …that can be a game changer.
🥲
The take away.. allow yourself to cry in therapy. You can cry for the whole session and that would be 💯 ok. Make it a practice NOT to apologize for your tears. Anywhere.
