Let’s clear up a few things we hear often about myofunctional therapy.

It’s not just for kids. Many of the clients we work with at Sawtooth are adult women who have been dealing with jaw tension, disrupted sleep, and ongoing exhaustion while searching for answers.

Myofunctional therapy focuses on the muscles and patterns that support breathing, jaw function, and sleep. It can also be part of a broader care plan alongside other therapies when appropriate.

Myofunctional therapy is a structured, personalized program that works on retraining muscle patterns over time. Progress takes consistency, practice, and patience.

If you’ve been wondering whether myofunctional therapy could be part of your journey, we’d love to talk with you.

Years of clenching and grinding. Sleep affected. Breathing affected. Posture affected. Dental bills adding up.

And then, total RELIEF.

This is our patient's experience after working with Brooke at Sawtooth Myofunctional Therapy. In her own words: feeling well-rested, stronger, and healthier on a daily basis. Breathing freely. No longer struggling through exercise. Life changed.

We do not take reviews like this lightly. This is exactly why this work exists, for the woman who has been managing the jaw tension, the disrupted sleep, and the exhaustion for years without anyone getting to the root of it.

If this story sounds familiar, yours might have a similar chapter ahead.

Sometimes the most useful question is the one nobody thinks to ask.

Not "what symptoms do you have" or "how long has it been going on." Just - if your body could speak plainly to you right now, without the medical appointments and the managing and the pushing through, what would it say?

We ask questions like this because the answer often reveals something worth paying attention to. A pattern. A signal that has been there for a long time. A message that has been sent repeatedly in different forms.

If your body's message involves jaw tension, exhaustion, or disrupted sleep, that message may be worth exploring.

Drop it in the comments. Whatever comes up, we are reading every single one.

Most people know the nose filters air. Fewer people know it is also quietly supporting their cardiovascular system with every breath.

Nitric oxide, produced in the nasal passages during nasal breathing, it plays a role in dilating blood vessels, supporting healthy circulation, and contributing to blood pressure regulation. This vasodilation effect means the body is delivering oxygen more efficiently and the cardiovascular system is working with less resistance.

When breathing shifts to the mouth, that process stops. Not dramatically. Not noticably.

Just — quietly, consistently, breath by breath.

The nose was designed as the primary breathing route for reasons that go well beyond filtering. The more you understand what it does, the more worth understanding it becomes.

This is what an airway change can look like.

Two scans. Same person. Before and after completing a comprehensive myofunctional therapy program at Sawtooth Myofunctional Therapy.

The colored area in each image represents airway volume. The difference between the top image and the bottom image is not a filter or an edit. It is a measurable change in how open and supported this client's airway became through the process of retraining the muscles responsible for breathing and airway function during sleep.

This is why we talk so much about muscle patterns, the tongue, the lips, the throat, and the soft palate. Because when those muscles are retrained to function the way they were designed to, the airway responds. And when the airway responds, sleep quality, energy, jaw function, and breathing can all shift in ways that are felt every single day.

Results like this do not happen overnight. They happen through consistent daily practice over the course of a comprehensive myofunctional therapy program. They happen because someone chose to stop managing and start addressing the root.

There is a difference between being bad at something and having something be genuinely hard for you.

Being bad at sleeping looks like not trying. Not caring. Not making it a priority.

That is not you. You have tried everything. The schedule. The supplements. The routine that worked for your friend but not for you. You have made sleep a priority for years.

What you have is not a discipline problem. It is a function problem. And function can be understood and supported.

Eat, Sleep, Myo. Restoring function and transforming lives.

If sleep has been genuinely hard for longer than you can explain, reach out to Sawtooth Myofunctional Therapy to schedule your complimentary 15-minute consultation.

September brought a lot of new information.

About breathing. About jaw function. About sleep quality and what might actually be driving it. About muscle patterns and why trying harder was never going to be enough.

If any of it landed, if you have been saving posts, nodding along, or thinking, "This sounds exactly like me"—October is a genuinely good time to take the next step.

We are currently welcoming new clients at Sawtooth Myofunctional Therapy. The first step is a complimentary 15-minute consultation—no commitment, no pressure, just a conversation about where you are and what working together could look like.

"It is probably just stress."

You have heard it. You have believed it. You have tried managing the stress — and the jaw tension is still there.

Here is what that explanation leaves out.

Stress can absolutely be stored in the jaw. When the body perceives a threat, it braces — and the jaw is one of the first places that response shows up. Over time, that bracing can become an established muscle pattern that runs independently of how stressed you actually feel. The deadline passes. The season ends. And the jaw stays tight, because the muscle has learned that this is where it lives now.

But stress is not always the whole story.

Jaw tension can also develop from muscle dysfunction that has nothing to do with emotional state — from how the tongue rests, how the airway is supported during sleep, and whether the surrounding muscles have been compensating for an airway that has been working harder than it should. For many women, the jaw tension that started with stress has been quietly sustained by something underneath it.

Managing stress matters. It is genuinely helpful. But it does not retrain a muscle pattern. And it does not address an airway that has been asking the jaw to pick up the slack.

Both pieces are worth understanding.

Eat, Sleep, Myo. Restoring function and transforming lives.

If jaw tension has persisted well beyond the stress that seemed to cause it, reach out to Sawtooth Myofunctional Therapy to schedule your complementary 15-minute consultation. The full picture may be worth exploring.

Cold and flu season is approaching—and your nose can do more to help you than you think.

Every nasal breath filters, warms, and humidifies the air before it reaches your lungs. Nasal breathing also produces nitric oxide—which has antimicrobial properties your mouth simply cannot replicate.

And deep sleep is when your immune system does its most important regulatory work. When airway function disrupts that sleep—that work gets disrupted too.

How you breathe, including while you sleep, can greatly impact immune health.

If sleep quality or breathing has been a concern heading into cold season, reach out to Sawtooth Myofunctional Therapy to schedule your complimentary 15-minute consultation.
