World Series Champ Jim Eisenreich Didn't Let His Tourette Syndrome Stop Him From Playing Baseball - Sportscasting | Pure Sports

This is Board Member Jeff Mason

I have had the pleasure of knowing Jim since I was 5. Many days he got me through the ups and downs of Tourettes as I grew up playing sports of all kinds and still do to this day.

You can play sports or do any activity/endeavor at a high enough level and overcome the obstacles/distractions.

Go out there and don't be afraid to keep pushing and persevering in everyday life. You can be who you want and do what you want.

Jim Eisenreich was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome during his career, but he didn't let that stop him from winning a World Series.

Another great article about this school year. Remember, PATSA is here to help you. We have Zoom and can attend a school meeting virtually and even train your teachers through Zoom as well!

IEP and 504 plans aren’t set in stone. Here's how to modify your child’s plan to incorporate remote learning accommodations.

Special Thanks to Melanie Hazelrigg for raising $371 for PATSA through a Virtual Half Marathon that she created! This helped her train for her own half Marathon that she completed last week. Here's her story:
I like to run races both to maintain my fitness and to raise money for various causes. I decided to train for a half marathon this summer but was having a hard time finding a virtual event. That’s when I realized I could make my own event! As a mom of two kids with TS, I really appreciate the support we have gotten from PA-TSA. I thought this would be a great opportunity to give back to the TS community while raising awareness about Tourette.

I posted about my idea on social media and invited friends and family to complete a virtual race of their choice and/or donate to PATSA. I was so happy that two friends chose to race. A friend from high school biked a 50 mile trail with his wife, and my neighbor pledged to walk a mile per day plus one additional mile for every dollar her friends donated to PATSA.

My neighbor, Amy, was truly the mvp of this challenge, as she posted daily updates and included information about Tourette with each post. I am so grateful for her efforts to increase awareness and understanding.

Today was the start of our 2020/2021 school trainings! Things may look very different this year, but it isn't stopping PATSA. We are pushing through with modifications and are fully ready to help educate those who need us!

Our Eastern, PA Consultant, Nicole held a virtual Educator Training via zoom for 16 teachers at The Pennington School. It was wonderful to see everyone still participating and engaging throughout the presentation.

Altho school looks different for many this year, I promise you teachers are doing all they can to make this year great for our TS kiddos and are ready and willing to help learn and accommodate there needs.

The ticcer can let those around know that it is a tic OR others can kindly ask if it is a tic and that may help alleviate any confusion. Once you know it is a tic the next best action is to ignore it. #tics #tourettesawareness #patsa #tourettesyndrome #awareness #education

Tourette Syndrome awareness and diagnosis is low in urban areas. But we know TS does not discriminate by location, race, or economic situation. Help us break down these walls as we start a new urban pilot program to make sure everyone has access to support, education, and medical care. Join our PR committee to make a difference. We meet via zoom or conference call line. Find out what you can do from your home to truly impact the world. Be the change! Considering the current environment, 2 things come immediately to mind when thinking of this tic. 1. Others may assume illness and be fearful of germs being spread 2. The person with the tic may have increased anxiety over spreading germs because of this tic. Be kind. #tics #tourettesyndrome #tourettesawareness #patsa #education #awareness

Does anybody have advice on how to help my 5 years old? He has this ankle popping tic and it happens mostly when we lay down for the night. He says it hurts and we try walking to get it to stop but as soon as he lays back down, it starts again. He sits here and smacks his leg and hurts himself trying to stop the tic. I tried a weighted blanket as well but it's not helping either. Thanks in advance!

I wanted to share my gratitude to this group. Yesterday, I was able to convince my counties' Intermediate Unit to get the staff trained on tics and TS. I have been battling with an uninformed head therapist who insisted my daughter's eye rolling, snapping of fingers, and popping sounds were a disrespectful attitude and not tics. She is currently diagnosed with a tic disorder. Once we get the TS diagnosis, the IU has agreed to contact your organization to train all the staff that works with my daughter. Thank you so much for being a community resource!
