“I thought everyone did this.” That’s something many people say when they first learn about masking.

For years, they may have thought they were simply shy, awkward, too sensitive, trying too hard, or unusually tired after being around people.

They may have wondered why things that seemed effortless for everyone else took so much energy.

Why they needed hours alone after socialising.

Why they felt like a slightly different version of themselves depending on who they were with.

Why being completely themselves sometimes felt strangely difficult.

And when you’ve spent years adapting yourself to different situations, there can be an uncomfortable question underneath it all:

Who am I when I’m not trying to be who people expect me to be?

Learning about masking can put words to experiences someone has had for years without understanding why.

For some people, that recognition is huge.

Neurodivergent & Chronically III

A supportive group space for ND & chronically ill folx
Join a warm, welcoming space to tind community, share experiences, and build camaraderie with others who truly get it. You don't have to navigate the intersection of neurodivergence and chronic illness alone. Group starts with a check-in and goes in whicever direction group members decide. Prompts will be provided if members are unsure of what to talk about.
