Your legacy can help care for generations to come.

October 19–25 is National Estate Planning Awareness Week, a time to think about the people, places, and causes that matter most to you.

If Outer Cape Health Services has made a difference in your life or the lives of people you care about, you can help ensure that compassionate, accessible healthcare remains part of our community for generations to come.

Leaving a legacy gift may be easier than you think. You can:

- Include OCHS in your will or living trust.

- Name OCHS as a beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement account.

- Designate OCHS as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

- Leave a percentage of an investment account or other assets.

- Explore gifts of real estate or charitable trusts.

You don't have to choose between caring for your loved ones and supporting the community you cherish. Even a small percentage of your estate can make a lasting difference.

Your gift can help ensure that your neighbors, friends, and future generations have access to the healthcare they need, regardless of their ability to pay.

🎙️ OCHS on WBUR: Making Lifesaving Addiction Treatment More Accessible

Addiction treatment should be part of everyday health care, not something patients have to seek out separately.

WBUR recently featured Outer Cape Health Services and our $677,045 federal grant to expand treatment for opioid use disorder across the Lower and Outer Cape.

Our Senior Medical Director, Dr. Andrew Chin, explained why integrating addiction treatment into primary care matters:

"They shouldn't have to go to a specialty clinic to stay on a life-saving treatment."

By strengthening the ability of our primary care teams to provide addiction treatment, we're helping more patients receive the care they need from providers they already know and trust.

Thank you to WBUR for shining a light on this important work!

💙 Access. Forever.

🚨 ADVOCACY ALERT: Help Protect Access to Health Care!

Beginning January 1, 2027, new federal requirements will make it more challenging for many Massachusetts residents to maintain their MassHealth coverage.

At Outer Cape Health Services, our Health Connections team helps patients navigate health insurance, understand their options, and access the care they need. With these changes approaching, that assistance will be more important than ever.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives is considering $18 million in one-time funding to help community health centers provide critical outreach and enrollment assistance.

We encourage our community to contact their state representatives TODAY and ask them to support this funding in the FY26 supplemental budget.

Ensuring that people can access and maintain health coverage strengthens the health of our entire community.

Losing health insurance shouldn't mean losing access to healthcare.

A recent article in The Provincetown Independent highlights a growing crisis facing our neighbors on the Outer Cape. Changes to Medicaid and health insurance subsidies are already leaving people without affordable coverage, and the challenges are expected to grow significantly in the coming months.

At Outer Cape Health Services, we're preparing for an unprecedented increase in need.

Our Healthy Connections Program helps patients navigate complicated insurance rules, apply for coverage, understand their options, and access the healthcare they need. Our specialists are already assisting hundreds of people affected by these changes, and their work is becoming more important than ever.

We need your help.

Your donation to Healthy Connections will support our efforts to help neighbors navigate these changes and maintain access to healthcare during an increasingly uncertain time.

At OCHS, our commitment remains the same: Access. Forever. For everyone.

❤️ Please consider making a gift today. Every contribution makes a difference.

💊 Affordable medications are essential to a healthy community. Let's protect access to them.

At Outer Cape Health Services, we believe that no one should have to choose between filling a prescription and paying for groceries, housing, or other basic necessities.

The federal 340B Drug Pricing Program helps community health centers like OCHS make medications more affordable and reinvest resources into patient care. It is especially important for people managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and asthma.

⚠️ Now, proposed changes to the program could put that access at risk.

Beginning January 1, 2027, a federal pilot program is scheduled to replace upfront prescription drug discounts with a system requiring health centers to pay full price and wait for rebates.

For community health centers already operating with limited resources, this could create significant financial challenges and threaten the services patients depend on.

We believe affordable medications should be available when patients need them, not when a rebate arrives.

We're joining community health centers across Massachusetts and the nation in encouraging policymakers to protect the 340B program and ensure that changes don't come at the expense of patients.

💙 Because access to healthcare shouldn't depend on your income or ZIP code.

You may have seen recent headlines about hundreds of thousands of people losing Affordable Care Act coverage through the federal health insurance marketplace.

If you live in Massachusetts, there is an important distinction: these federal actions do not affect people enrolled through the Massachusetts Health Connector.

But the headlines are a good reminder that health insurance can be complicated, and changes in eligibility, income, paperwork or coverage can be difficult to navigate.

That’s where Healthy Connections at Outer Cape Health Services can help.

Our certified application counselors can help you understand your options and assist with:

• MassHealth
• ConnectorCare and Health Connector plans
• Health Safety Net
• Medicare transitions
• OCHS Sliding Fee Discounts
• Updating or maintaining your coverage

You do not have to figure it out alone.

If you have questions about your health insurance, received a notice you don’t understand, or need help applying for coverage, contact an OCHS Healthy Connections counselor.

Access to care starts with access to coverage.

Access. Forever. For everyone.

Healthcare should not stop when you leave the exam room.

A new Medicare initiative reflects something Outer Cape Health Services believes deeply: people living with chronic conditions need access to care between appointments, and sometimes the best place to receive that support is at home.

Beginning in spring 2027, Original Medicare (not Medicare Advantage) will expand options for technology-supported care for conditions including heart failure, COPD, substance use disorder, and ni****ne dependence. Depending on the program, patients may be able to use virtual visits, remote monitoring, connected devices, and health coaching to stay in closer contact with their healthcare teams.

For communities like ours, where distance, transportation, weather, and workforce shortages can make accessing healthcare harder, this matters.

At OCHS, our vision is Access. Forever. For everyone. That means building a healthcare system in which geography does not determine whether someone can stay connected to care, and where technology strengthens the relationship between patients and their care teams rather than replacing it.

Care in the clinic when you need it.
Care at home when it makes sense.
Care that stays connected.

Access. Forever. For everyone.

LP-1 medications are prescription drugs, not just weight-loss products.

Medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide can be important tools for treating diabetes and obesity. But they also require medical oversight.

If you receive a GLP-1 medication through an online service or another provider, make sure your primary care team knows. Your clinician needs to understand what medication you are taking, the dose, where it came from, how you are responding, and whether it may affect your other medications or health conditions.

This is especially important with compounded GLP-1 medications.

The FDA has reported dosing errors and has warned that compounded drugs do not undergo the same review for safety, effectiveness, and quality as FDA-approved medications. U.S. Food and Drug Administration

Your healthcare team cannot help manage a medication they do not know you are taking.

Please tell your care team about all prescription medications, supplements, and medications obtained online.

❤️ World Heart Day: Don’t Miss a Beat

Your heart works for you every day. World Heart Day is a reminder to return the favor.

Cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, but many risk factors can be reduced through everyday choices and preventive care.

A few ways to protect your heart:
• Know your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers
• Stay physically active
• Choose heart-healthy foods
• Avoid to***co and ni****ne
• Get enough sleep
• Manage diabetes and other chronic conditions
• Talk with your healthcare team about your individual risk

And remember: symptoms of a heart attack can look different from person to person. Chest pressure or pain, shortness of breath, nausea, unusual fatigue, sweating, or discomfort in the arm, back, neck, jaw, or stomach can all be warning signs.

This World Heart Day, Don’t Miss a Beat. Pay attention to your heart, know your risks, and make prevention part of your health routine.
