I have worked in the Autism Spectrum Disorder field for 20 years now. I started as a teacher assistant, moved into teaching, then classroom consulting, then the private arena. I’ve now worked with kids aged 3-16, in homes, schools and clinics, and I still love what I do!- but I want to by modeling more of “today’s ABA”- a compassionate, ethical, flexible, big picture, whole-family kind o
f Applied Behavior Analysis. There are massive gaps between 1:1 therapy and school, and I have a strong desire to bridge those gaps. I want to enmesh my teaching background with my ABA experience, and help more kids be more successful in doing so. I also want to provide more flexible services to families, because full-time, clinic-based services don’t work for everyone, and honestly- aren’t always needed. Therefore, the goal of A Balanced Approach is to balance home, school, and community as well as 1:1 services, small group and large group services. In addition to intensive family training and IEP advocacy, I am hoping to help families determine the creative combination of services and settings that work best for them and will ultimately help everyone achieve a better quality of life.

A Balanced Approach LLC is thankful for our clients & families, our team, and for all the community support we've gotten as a small business.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the holiday weekend!
Functional tasks are perfect ways to target expressive and receptive language skills! Some of our favorite fall speech therapy activities include:
🍁 baking cookies
🍁 setting the table
🍁 reading books about fall/thanksgiving
🍁 unpacking winter clothing
🍁 listening to holiday music & singing along
🍁 playing outside
Each of these tasks can target following directions, labeling of varied nouns, verbs and pronouns, targeting basic concepts (prepositions, colors, textures), and categories. When tasks are directly relating to what is occurring in their environment, transference of these skills greatly increase!

As a former teacher, I am very pro-school, but the reality is some kids need more direct instruction and individualized supports.
If your child isn't required to attend school yet and/or if your family needs an alternative to school so more behavioral control, functional communication and readiness skills can be taught, in-home ABA services may be the answer, and we may be able to help!
We are an BCBA-owned company, the owner is a former ASD teacher, and we are committed to providing creative and flexible options for families!

Please note:
We will be closed Sat, 10/7 & Sun, 10/8 as our *entire team* will be getting QBS/SafetyCare training.
We get a lot of calls for after school sessions, and unfortunately we are completely booked at that time slot. Here's an after-school optiom!
The Las Vegas Autism Center Serving Las Vegas & Henderson has immediate openings Monday - Friday from 3-5pm at the West Sahara Center. For more information please visit: lvautismcenter.com
💛 Organization isn't always going to come naturally to everyone. Many need to be taught HOW to organize their space and belongings before being expected to do it instinctually - and that's just the beginning. Experimenting with different approaches to organization is the key to findings systems that actually work.
For example, if binders haven't worked for school, consider trying an accordion folder - we see the most success with this system in the students we work with. Go accordion folders! 😂
There is no school for all CCSD students on 10/9 and no school on 10/10 for Elementary School students only.
We can help!

A Balanced Approach LLC started supporting a client in their kindergarten readiness class at a local daycare today!
We appreciate the daycare's willingness to collaborate with us to ensure things work well for everyone involved!
As a former teacher, I'm definitely pro-school, but the reality is that some kids need more support and/or direct instruction than CCSD can provide, and readiness makes a difference!!
Let us help you find the creative & flexible solutions that best meet your child's (and family's) needs, and helps prepare them for future transitions & environments!
We have *immediate* daytime openings for in-home ABA in Henderson & Southeast Vegas!
A Balanced Approach LLC also welcomes Ms. Carla to the team!
Carla worked within the Milwaukee Public School system for 30+ years, served in the military, has her bachelor's and master's in psychology, and has been an RBT for 2 years!
She has another day job but just can't stay away from her passion- working with kids!
She is seeing clients on the weekend, and her openness to feedback, and desire to keep learning and growing her behavior analytic skills, make her a great addition to the team!
A Balanced Approach LLC welcomes Kristi to the team!
She has been a dance teacher for 30 years and started working as an Education Assistant 7 years ago. She's excited to start her journey as an RBT, and we're excited to have her!
She has been utilizing her experience with visual supports and co-regulation strategies to make training sessions productive & successful, and she is creative and fun with her rapport building & reinforcement too!
I talk a lot about fluctuating capacity in neurodivergent people.
It leads to conversations about expectations, and whether it’s ok to push our kids to do hard things.
We don’t want to push our kids when they’re close to the edge. That just pushes them off.
When they’re emotional, dysregulated, unwell, exhausted, overwhelmed- this is not a time to push them. This is a time to reduce expectations and add support.
When our kids are well-regulated, emotionally ok, not mentally exhausted, in a good frame of mind- that is the time to provide opportunities for them to exceed expectations and ‘push’ themselves.
Yes?

I spend most of my time as a Psychologist teaching kids about feelings. It never stops amazing me how a lot of adults struggle at doing this. Feelings are there for a reason, we need to recognise them so we can manage them
When kids are little, sticking to Happy, Sad, Angry, Scared and Worried are fine. They are the building blocks for understanding emotions. However, as children get older we need to expand their emotional vocabulary. For example, there is a difference between feeling angry and disappointed or confused and frustrated. The way would would manage anger and disappointment are probably going to be different too.

Did you know that one study found that as many as 72% of children with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) have autism??
There are similarities *and* differences between the two, but the need for more awareness & more resources and supports is universal across the spectrums!
We'll be at the FASD Awareness Family Day and 5K 2023! tomorrow! Come say hi!
A box full of bags, ready for our event! Thank you to all our sponsors who helped make this possible! We hope to see you there!
