Sometimes life feels foggy, everything but the wave directly in front of me seems obscured. I can feel that change is ahead, that something is taking shape... but what? Only the universe knows.

Everything is hazy. Unclear. I just have to trust. Simply believe that what is intended to be will be. I have to be ok with knowing that I may never understand the reason for things, or I might understand all of it. Either way, it's not for me to see or control or respond to... not yet.
Blind trust.
Faith.
Surrender.
Willingness to step forward into the fog.

That's hard stuff.
It's the important stuff♡

Summer is a season of hibernation and learning for me. Noticing what resonates and what no longer does, realizing what needs to be released and what needs to be pursued, feeling the growth within me and around me (which is not always a comfortable process.) I take the lessons from summer, and try to apply them to the rest of my year. It's an imperfect process, and sometimes I fall back into old patterns and no-longer-resonant ways, but it's a waltz towards alignment.
What are you learning this season?

I pass by this dune grass every morning on my way to and from my yoga practice. Today, I walked slowly, looking down and up and at all of the big and little things around me. And in that slowed experience -- that moment of observation and awe -- I spotted these precious orange buds on the dune grass. How beautiful!

How much beauty and wonder do we bypass each day because we're hurried or worried or busy? How much more beauty could we experience if we just. Slowed. Down?

Allow yourself to slow down today, even if just for five minutes. Allow yourself to see and feel and be in that time. Allow yourself to note the little things within you, around, and of you. Then, thank yourself for that practice.

As I say at the close of each and every yoga class, "May you find beauty in yourself and in your day, today and every day."♡

When the kindergarten tap class in the room next door is pumping loud, peppy music and you can clearly hear, "Shuffle ball change! Shuffle ball!" dance cues through the wall, but your pro-dancer yoga class is so In. The. Zone. from vagus nerve work and guided meditation that all but one practitioner falls asleep during savasana.

P.O.V.: You're pulling cards for your client. You get the intuitive hit that you'll need four cards from the deck. You open the box, and exactly four cards leap straight from the box onto the altar surface😶

Thanks for making that easy, Spirit!

Sometimes those tingles aren't butterflies but warning signals.

You deserve to surround yourself with people who are safe for you. If you feel anxious, drained, or off-kilter after being around a person, it may be time to create more secure boundaries and space. If you find yourself feeling truly safe, valued, lighter, and heard after being with someone, consider nurturing that connection.

Three of my favorite things as a reiki practitioner:
1. Client referrals (what an honor!)
2. The amazed look on new clients' faces after their first reiki session
3. Clients' utterly shocked reactions when Spirit calls up seriously poignant cards and/or items for their altars

Reiki is one of the few things in life that can absolutely only do good. There's zero risk.

So, if you haven't tried Reiki, know someone who hasn't yet experienced it, or if you haven't had a session in a while, it might be time to make it happen.

I'm currently scheduling in-person and live-virtual Reiki sessions for late March, as well as April.

Vagus nerve techniques aren't just for yoga class. I use them every day well beyond my yoga mat.

They not only help me throughout my daily life (ex: returning to rational thought in times of anxiety, releasing tension during stressful situations, self-calming when life is a lot.) They help me parent, too.

Those same techniques and concepts I use for myself and teach to my practitioners, I can use to move my tween from rage/hormonal mode back into a calm, rational place. By accessing the sympathetic nervous system, my child can regain use of both sides of her mind and escape the fight-or-flight, irrational mode that all of us can sometimes find ourselves trapped in.

It restores equilibrium, within and around us.

I'm so proud of my practitioners in yesterday's yoga class. Over the last four months, we have co-created such a safe, body-aware space that, yesterday, we completely stopped class and dug down into an asana to find resonant variations for each individual practitioner.

We fiddled with the posture. We discussed where and how each practitioner felt the shape. We explored different options. Then, each practitioner chose a different version of the shape that felt right in their body on that day, in that moment.

In doing this, these teen/young-adult professional dancers released the social narrative of "pushing through" or wrenching their physical form to fit some aesthetic shape. They surrendered the need to please, to fit a mold. Instead, they made the practice their own.

They chose themselves.

I am so proud of them.

Is it Water or a W**d?

Our companions can be water for us (nourishing us, supporting our growth, and encouraging us to flourish) or they can be weeds for us (stifling our vibrance, stunting our growth, and holding us in negative/destructive patterns.) The company we keep can be incredibly influential to our perception of self, life, the world, and our behaviors. It can impact our self-talk, our lifestyle, our communication patterns, and more.

If you're wondering if the company you're keeping is working for or against you, try this: notice how you feel before, during, and after time spent with each individual. If you feel content and lighter, that can be a sign of a positive connection. If you feel off-kilter and drained, that can be a sign of a connection that isn't currently resonant.

Does a non-resonant connection indicate that the individual is somehow lesser or "bad"? Nope. It just may not be a good fit right now for you in your current life stage. You two might just be growing in different directions right now, like tendrils on a vine.

Does that mean it's always been an incongruent match, or that it always will be? Nope. We're all in a constant state of flux; people can grow together and apart and back again numerous times.

Can some connections be altogether ill-advised? Of course. Some connections can just be unhealthy for one or both participants. Not everyone is a great fit together, and that's OK.

So now what? Seek those who are presently resonant. Be around those connections and foster relationships that positively impact you. Step back from those who negatively impact you.

♡ Your energy matters. Nourish it wisely. ♡

Yesterday after yoga class, the dancers were telling me how much of a positive impact previous pre-performance breathwork and meditation classes had. One practitioner relayed how she'd employed the visualization practice we'd honed in class when she was backstage. Waiting for her cue, she said she'd begun to feel nervous and her anxiety was going into doom mode, so she breathed deeply and began visualizing herself performing perfectly. "It worked!" She said. Others chimed in that they'd had similar experiences too.

Breakthrough!!! They realized that they *are* empowered.

Empowering my practitioners is one of my central focuses. That can be through helping them realize their ability to execute physical asanas they thought were outside of their capabilities, recognizing that they belong and have a voice, encouraging them to honor their inner wisdom and limits by making each yoga practice their own, providing them tools to combat anxiety/self-doubt, or guiding them towards the inner contentment and peace that they forgot was always within them.

The vagus nerve. You've probably worked with it without knowing... tapping, self-hugging, rocking, humming/grumbling, or breathing in deep/audible/growling/wooshing breaths when you're upset. There are so many ways to access it, to empower ourselves to tap into our innate wisdom and calm ourselves.

I love this clear visual. It's perfect for enhancing a meditative visualization.

I *GET* to do this!
The weekly yoga class with these teen/young-adult professional dancers at Greater Washington Dance Center is a joy! Yoga combines so beautifully with their dance training.
Each week, we let go of everything else and anchor into a fun, calming exploration of body, mind, breath, and emotional awareness.
Giving my practitioners tools that they can take into their everyday lives is key. We go beyond the physical yoga asanas and practice accessible nervous system regulation and meditation techniques each class. I adore hearing about how they utilize these methods in their lives.
♡Love it♡

Full moon challenge: gratitude!

Since a moon cycle is about 4 weeks, let's do a 4-week challenge... gratitude style. Who's in?

As stated by Harvard Medical School, "In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships." So, let's do it, adding a small piece of daily gratitude practice each week for 4 weeks.

The challenge: as best you can, or as much as is resonant, complete the listed gratitude practice every day for each of the 4 weeks(ex: every day of week 1, you complete the week 1 steps; every day of week 2, you complete the week 2 steps; etc.)

Bonus: consider journaling during the process so you can digest and reflect on the experience later.

As we begin this new year, flip the script.

There's this idea in visualization and manifestion that seems a bit backward to me. Often, the focus centers on what we want our lives to LOOK like and what we want to HAVE. This process of looking ahead without looking inward first can unintentionally lead us in directions that aren't resonant. It so easily allows us to misconstrue what society deems successful or desirable as what we want.

Instead, let's dive inwards first and discover what we each *individually* want life to FEEL like. Just what it would ideally feel like, nothing else. Then, use that awareness to uncover what our resonant life would look like and encompass.

Healing is not linear, nor is its sister: grief.

This time of year can stir up many emotions, memories, desires, and wounds. Sometimes we encounter these emotional lacerations and feel like holing up in ourselves, other times like running far away and hiding from ourselves (in ignoring, in busyness, in socializing, in work, in food, in drink... you name it), and some moments we oddly seem to desire both opposites simultaneously. And that's OK. As long as we do take time at some point to come back into ourselves, back to our grief, back to our body and mind and spirit.

Last week my own decade-and-a-half old grief, which had been seemingly released long ago, arose again. It surprised me. I wasn't prepared for it. I had the tools to process it, examine it, breathe through it, and understand it, but the reappearance of the grief was unsettling. But it was that experience of being unsettled that spurred processing that my mind, emotions, and energy required. I realized my grief was about more than what it initially seemed.

It wasn't just about missing a person who transitioned to the other side years ago. It was deeper than that. And from that awareness, I was able to dive into myself and my own healing.

No matter what stirs within you in these dark and merry days, I hope you grant yourself the time, space, and opportunity to heal. Because we're all healing from something ♡

When you're pulling oracle cards for a client's Reiki altar and literally step back, throw your hands up in the air, brace yourself on the sofa arm nearby, and laugh nervously out of sheer "ohmyfreakingosh" astonishment. The EXACT card I saw clearly in my mind's eye as I picked up the deck ended up being the first one turned over when revealing the altar.
It's definitely not the first time it's happened, but it always startles me. And I think Spirit gets a real kick out of doing that😄

So often -- especially this time of year -- we can so get tangled up in the hustle of giving and doing and being (sometimes even the "seeming") for so many others that we deplete all of our physical and energetic stores. Then we wonder why, after the holiday haze has passed, we feel run down, fatigued, down, or just straight-up sick.

Make sure you are giving, doing, and being for you too.

Prioritize YOU, YOUR healing, YOUR wellness, YOUR needs. You matter♡

Gratitude. Some days, some moments, it's easier or harder than others to foster. I have found, though, that gratitude is often the key to reframing and shifting my own energy and perspective no matter how easy or challenging a life experience may be.

As I say in my kids yoga classes during our sharing circles, "If there isn't anything today that you'd like to share that you're grateful for, you can always say, 'blinking' or 'breathing.' Because sometimes it's hard to feel grateful, but I think we can all agree that we sure are glad we can blink and breathe!"

So, whether you feel abundantly grateful for all the things -- good, challenging, and mundane -- in life today, or whether gratitude feels just beyond your reach, perhaps take a moment and simply feel gratefulness for the ability to blink and breathe.

Sometimes the little things are the big things♡
