School is back in session, and so are the sniffles, coughs, and everything else kids bring home.

While we can’t avoid every germ, we can be intentional about supporting our immune systems. Dr. Jamine Blesoff shares 3 of her go-to nutrients and supplements for families during cold & flu season:

1️⃣ ZINC: plays an essential role in immune cell development and function. Adequate zinc levels help maintain a healthy immune response, while certain zinc formulations may help shorten colds.

2️⃣ ELDERBERRY: rich in antioxidants and traditionally used for immune support. Some early research suggests elderberry may help reduce the duration or severity of upper respiratory symptoms, although evidence remains limited.

3️⃣ VITAMIN D: helps regulate immune function and supports the activity of immune cells involved in recognizing and responding to pathogens. Maintaining adequate levels is especially important as we head into the colder months.

Immune support isn’t one-size-fits-all. Age, nutritional status, diet, and individual needs all matter when deciding which supplements are appropriate.

What if cancer prevention started much earlier than we think? CNN is reporting on new research published in The Lancet Oncology that found an estimated 2.3 million cancer cases worldwide in 2024 (about 1 in 8) were attributable to infections.

Even more interesting: five pathogens accounted for the majority of these cases.
▪️ H. pylori: ~760,000
▪️ HPV: ~750,000
▪️ Hepatitis B: ~360,000
▪️ Epstein-Barr virus (EBV): ~260,000
▪️ Hepatitis C: ~160,000

But, having one of these infections does not mean you will develop cancer. Most people with these infections will not. But persistent infection can increase the risk of certain cancers over time, and several of these infections can be prevented, detected, treated, or managed.

As the study’s senior author told CNN: “We can intervene before it gets anywhere near cancer.”

That idea is bigger than this one study.

It’s why we believe in looking upstream, understanding risk factors and what may be happening in the body long before disease presents itself.

Medicine cannot prevent every cancer, but when we have opportunities to identify and address known risk factors earlier, they deserve our attention.

Prevention isn’t just about finding disease early. It’s about intervening before disease begins.

Trying to optimize your child’s sleep? Start with what’s on the plate.

Instead of automatically reaching for melatonin gummies, Dr. Jamine Blesoff, ND, MPH recommends trying a few simple bedtime snack combinations that pair complex carbohydrates with foods providing nutrients involved in the body’s natural melatonin-production pathways.

Try:
🥣 Oatmeal with banana, walnuts or pistachios
🥛 Whole wheat crackers and warm milk or cheese
🍒 Greek yogurt and fresh cherries

And don’t forget the other half of the equation: sleep hygiene. Turn off screens and devices about an hour before bed to help create a better environment for your child’s natural sleep signals.

Small changes can become meaningful parts of a consistent bedtime routine.

As with any nutrition change, consider your child’s individual needs, allergies, intolerances, and overall diet.

Save this for your next bedtime routine.

As the seasons change, your vitamin D deserves a second look.

Less daylight and more time indoors can mean less opportunity for your body to produce vitamin D from sunlight. While vitamin D plays an important role in bone, muscle, calcium, and immune health, more isn’t always better.

Instead of guessing, or automatically reaching for a high-dose supplement, start by knowing your current status.

A simple blood test can help assess your vitamin D status and give your provider a better picture of what your body actually needs.

Test. Personalize. Reassess.

Your wellness routine shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all.

Fatigue, brain fog, hair shedding, restless legs. These symptoms get written off constantly, and low iron is one of the most overlooked reasons behind them.

Before any infusion, we start with bloodwork. A full iron panel tells us whether iron is actually the issue and how your body is storing it, so your plan is built around your labs, not a guess.

IV iron bypasses digestion entirely, delivering iron straight into circulation where it can be used to build hemoglobin and support the mitochondria behind your energy, focus, and recovery.

Swipe through for what an infusion visit actually looks like, then reach out to schedule a consultation and see if this is the right next step for you.
