Shout out to Mr Viner from the high school for helping with every hive today! I have been sick and my energy wasnt what it usually is for this big work event. So thankful for the help and lifting the 8 boxes ready for harvest-they are 70lbs each! We had to leave 10 full boxes of honey in the apiary for the bees to eat through the winter.

We’re hunkered down for winter! Today we got all the hives ready for the winter months ahead when they cant go outside. Leaving two brood boxes and two full supers of honey for the bees to eat through the winter, we wrapped the outside of the boxes to provide protection from the elements. We added entrance reducers to limit the amount of airflow in/out of the hive. At the top we added a block of foam insulation below the top cover to help with heat preservation. Tonight is going to be a tough night for the oldest bees and remaining drones who dont have a place to sleep tonight.
