This weekend we celebrated World Breastfeeding Week by bringing together an incredible group of postpartum providers from across Houston.
IBCLCs, pediatric OTs, SLPs, physicians, postpartum doulas, chiropractors, mental health therapists, and La Leche League leaders gathered together with one shared goal: strengthening what works for families.
This year’s theme, Strengthening What Works, sparked meaningful conversations about how we can better support parents, not just individually, but together.
Everyone wrote down one thing they hope to strengthen in Houston. Some of the ideas included:
• Creating a village for new families
• Checking in with parents and having honest conversations about how they’re caring for themselves
• Caring for families equally before and after birth
• Supporting dads and partners so they can better support the mom and birth parent
It was inspiring to see so many people passionate about collaboration and committed to improving postpartum care in our community.
This was our first annual World Breastfeeding Week gathering, and we already can’t wait to continue these conversations next year. Here’s to building stronger connections, stronger communities, and stronger support for every family.
