In this picture you can see two handwriting samples:

The top sample is a handwritten name in cursive adjoined by a spiral, seemingly normal, and demonstrates the power of DBS ON in one of my patients with bad essential tremor; the bottom sample is her name and spiral which is difficult to read and shows the tremulous nature of her handwriting with DBS OFF. It is clear how much she has improved.

If you want to go for a DBS surgery, you can contact with me. I am always trying to give the best service to my patients 😊

Using the Mazor Renaissance Frameless Stereotactic Robotic Assistant for DBS, we can perform DBS without a rigid frame or your head shaved. The baseplate is attached by 3 small screws, CT imaging is performed, and then the robotic assistant is mounted. The robot automatically aligns to the desired trajectory to the target planned by the surgical team on sophisticated navigation software using multiple image modalities.

DBS is an enduring, powerful solution for tremor. Please do not be afraid of this procedure. Come for a DBS consultation and see how it can magically change your life.

For essential tremor and parkinson disease (DBS surgery)

Hi everyone,

I have been performing Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery in Houston for the past 12 years.

Performing DBS has traditionally been done with the use of the Leksell frame. I started using the Mazor robot about a year ago and it has changed the pace of DBS. Not many people do it, this way in the world.

DBS surgery is used to treat patients with movement disorders such as essential tremor, Parkinson's disease and dystonia. It can also be used to control symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder and epilepsy.

Now the question arise here is: "Why should you choose DBS surgery over medication alone?"

The answer is:

✅ It is reversible, Not permanent.
✅ It is Adjustable.
✅ Continuous relief of Motor Dysfunction.
✅ DBS + medication proven to be better than medication alone.
✅ 180,000+ Cases Worldwide to Date.

You can consult with me about your problem. I am always trying to give the best service to my patients 😊

Patient experience for DBS surgery

This gentleman is one of my patients. For decades, his tremor was a constant nuisance...to everything: handwriting, carpentry, even when he would shoot his shotgun, he was extremely shaky. But after DBS surgery, he can do any of these activities without any tremor.

In the video we can see, Microelectrode recording of 5 simultaneous tracts targeting the STN for PD, showing good neuronal activity that is indicative of a parkinsonian STN (subthalamic nucleus).

Deep Brain Stimulation Experience

She was one of my patients. Before DBS, the tremor in her hands and head were almost disabling. After DBS surgery, she is doing extremely well with excellent tremor control. Listen to her talk about how DBS surgery changed her life. I think you all have this question “Are you a candidate for DBS surgery?”

You may be a candidate for DBS if you have:
1. a movement disorder with worsening symptoms (i.e., tremor, rigidity) and medications are losing their effectiveness.
2. In Parkinson's disease, troubling "off" periods between medication doses with severe tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia
3. In Parkinson's disease, development of medication-induced dyskinesias (involuntary excessive movements of the torso, head, and/or limbs).
4. quality of life is suffering

To treat essential tremor with deep brain stimulation, electrodes are placed in the thalamus during surgery. The electrodes are connected by wires to a type of pacemaker device (called an impulse generator, or IPG) implanted under the skin of the chest, below the collarbone. Once activated, the device sends continuous (painless) electrical pulses to the thalamus, blocking the impulses that cause tremors. This has the same effect as thalamotomy without actually destroying parts of the brain.

Here, we are performing Deep Brain Stimulation surgery with the use of the stereotactic Leksell frame. At this point in the procedure, we are recording neural activity through micro electrodes inserted into the brain, with cellular spiking displayed on the computer in the foreground. Although you cannot tell from this picture, the patient is awake. This is the traditional way DBS surgery is performed, to verify the target site prior to placement of the stimulating electrode.

When we perform Deep Brain Stimulation surgery using the Mazor robot assistance, the patient does not need to have their head shaved, and the fiducial marker is placed on their head. The patient does not have to be rigidly fixed to the bed – "Truly frameless, and more comfortable to the patient."
