What happens in the body when stress becomes chronic?

Research is beginning to uncover a biological connection between chronic stress and dormant cancer cells, including how stress hormones may create conditions that allow those cells to become active again.

Importantly, this does not mean stress causes cancer or that recurrence is anyone’s fault. But it does give us another reason to take stress management seriously.

What research is revealing about chronic stress and dormant cancer cells.

Why does Love & Support come first?

Because healthy change rarely happens in isolation. Support helps make the other five pillars possible.

Our latest Mix of Six post shares our personal story behind why this pillar comes first.

GLP-1 medications are everywhere right now, and the questions around them are only growing. A 2025 JAMA Oncology study of 86,000 adults found they were associated with a reduced overall cancer risk — likely because excess body weight is responsible for 7.6% of all cancer cases in the U.S.

The research is promising, but still evolving. Medication on its own is only part of the picture. Lifestyle change — diet, sleep, stress, movement, social connection, and environment — combined with medications as necessary is what the evidence consistently shows reduces cancer risk most.

Magnesium is one of the most overlooked minerals in the body. It’s involved in more than 300 processes that support sleep, stress response, muscle function, and inflammation.

Many people aren’t getting enough. Diets today often fall short of the whole, nutrient-dense foods that naturally provide magnesium.

Supplements can help, but food is the foundation. Leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, almonds, black beans, and dark chocolate are some of the richest sources.

Research shows that a regular meditation practice doesn’t just help you feel calmer. It can actually change your brain, reduce inflammation, and even influence gene expression.

It’s a small daily habit that can lower stress hormones, ease anxiety, and support healing at the cellular level.
