According to an incredible book called Chatter by Ethan Kross, trees and grass act like mental vitamins that fuel one’s ability to manage the stresses they face. A study was done with over more than 10,000 people in England over 18 years in which scientists discovered that people reported lower level of distress and higher feelings of well-being when living in urban areas with more green space. Another study in Toronto Canada found that having 10 more trees on a city block associated with improved health that was comparable to an increase of $10,000/year or being 7 years younger!
Nature nurtures! That’s right, the more time we spend outside, or viewing nature outside our windows, whether that be a few trees and a bird feeder or taking a stroll through a green space, the more we feel healthy and well.
