Yesterday, we waved our palms, echoing the cheers of the crowds welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem. That was a moment of triumph, a recognition of Jesus as King.
Think about that feeling – the excitement of a hero's welcome, the hope that things are finally turning towards victory. We all crave those moments in our own lives, those times when we feel seen, celebrated, and full of promise.
But the story doesn't end with the waving palms. We know the path ahead leads to a cross. This week, we journey with Jesus through the highs of this triumphant entry to the devastating lows of betrayal, suffering, and death.
Yes, life is rarely a constant celebration. We have our "Palm Sunday" moments - successes, joys, times of feeling on top of the world. But inevitably, we also face our "Good Fridays" - moments of pain, loss, and feeling utterly abandoned.
Palm Sunday celebration yesterday reminds us that even in our moments of greatest joy, we need to be mindful of the journey ahead. It calls us to a deeper kind of commitment, one that doesn't just cheer from the sidelines when things are good, but one that stands with love and faith even in the face of suffering.
This Holy Week, I want to encourage us to hold onto the memory of those waving palms, that initial burst of hope. But let's also prepare our hearts to walk with Jesus through the difficult days to come. For it is in embracing the entirety of his journey - the triumph and the tragedy; that we truly understand the depth of his love for us and the incredible victory that awaits on Easter Sunday.
May this week be a time of profound reflection, drawing us closer to the heart of Christ and strengthening our faith to face both the sunshine and the storms of our own lives.
Amen.
