Let's talk about what's actually in most American skincare that you'd never find in a European product. 👀

Three categories of ingredients are commonly found in US cosmetics that the EU has restricted or banned entirely:

🚫 PARABENS (methylparaben, propylparaben)
Used as preservatives in moisturizers, shampoos, and body wash. Classified by the EU as hormone disruptors linked to reproductive harm. Still common in US drugstore products.

🚫 PHTHALATES (DBP, DEHP)
Used to make fragrances last longer and as plasticizers in nail polish. Flagged by the EU as endocrine disruptors and developmental toxins. Banned in EU cosmetics. In the US, they often don't even appear on the label because they hide under the word "fragrance."

🚫 FORMALDEHYDE RELEASERS (DMDM Hydantoin, Quaternium-15)
Slow-release preservatives that emit formaldehyde over time, a known carcinogen. Heavily restricted in the EU. Routinely found in US shampoos, conditioners, and body washes.
