While people almost exclusively attribute breast cancer to women, it is important to know that men are diagnosed, too. For men, the lifetime risk of getting breast cancer is about 1 in 833. In 2026, an estimated 2,670 new cases will be diagnosed with an estimated 530 deaths.

Though not functionally the same as women’s, men have breast tissue, ducts, and glands that can develop cancer and spread to other areas. Due to reasons such as lack of awareness, ignoring warning signs, or embarrassment of testing, male diagnosis could be delayed and reduce a man’s chance for successful treatment.
