Diagnosed four years ago, I understand the fear that comes with such a diagnosis, and I’m here to provide support, insight, and as we navigate these journeys together. Living with ulcerative colitis (UC) is a journey filled with ups and downs, moments of hope, and times of struggle. When I first faced this diagnosis, I felt overwhelmed and alone. But over time, I discovered the power of sharing my story. Opening up about my experiences not only helped me heal emot...

I almost didn’t post today — but Dare 2 Fly exists for the messy, honest moments. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2022 and put on high-dose steroids that later caused steroid-induced psychosis. That scared me, but my doctors helped and I recovered. Fast forward to 2026: after a year of persistent leg pain I agreed to a pain‑management injection. The pain eased — and then new side effects came: poor sleep, nausea, a low mood that didn’t feel like me. It’s been confusing and hard.

If you’re living with chronic illness, autoimmune disease, medication side effects, or chronic pain — you’re not alone. Some days we’re unstoppable; some days we’re just getting through the hour. Both matter. I’m sharing this because vulnerability builds connection, and if my story helps even one person feel seen, it’s worth it. ❤️

Have you experienced medication side effects that affected your mood or thinking? I’d love to hear your experience — we can support each other.

I wasn’t going to post today, but I remembered my ultimate goal is to show others that it’s okay to be vulnerable and there is no judgement. What we go through can feel lonely and the bad days don’t help!

When I was first diagnosed with UC in January of 2022 I was put on on very high doses of steroids. As I’m sure most of you know steroids can wreck havoc on your body and your psyche. Later that year and another does of steroids (I was still very inflamed) and I found myself forcing myself to stay in bed! 🥺 I had developed psychosis from the steroids and it was the scariest thing I ever been through. Thankfully my doctors acted fast and within 24 hours of stopping the oral steroids I could feel the psychosis lift. I haven’t had steroids since.

Fast forward to 2026, many more diagnosis and life changes but I started having this pain right at the back top of my leg and it just wouldn’t go away. My pain doctor offered a shot and I reluctantly agreed. I confirmed Thursday before the shot I wouldn’t get psychosis.

The injection worked! The pain was gone for the first time since it started nearly a year ago and I was feeling confident that I wasn’t going to have any side effects. Unfortunately I was wrong! I haven’t been able to get a good night of sleep, my stomach is nauseous food just doesn’t sound good and I’m sad for no reason 😰

I am soo thankful to the man that stands next to me and understands that it’s not me it’s the medication that is making me sad and irritable.

I’m sharing a personal reflection about how one hard season reshaped my life - and how that experience became the quiet reason to create a place of understanding for others. On Jan 8, 2022 I was hospitalized (after three hospital visits and an emergency colonoscopy) and left the hospital 27 days later with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis. I was later diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, discovered I’m allergic to steroids, and in 2025 began treatment for a rare blood cancer. Those years taught me how fragile energy can be - and how vital community is.

In the post I’m candid about the days I needed naps, the overwhelm of medication and appointments, and the small routines that helped me keep going: mindfulness, gentle movement, nutrition, journaling, and therapy. I wrote it because if you’re living with an autoimmune or chronic illness, I want you to feel seen and less alone.

Some days I do everything perfectly. Most days I don’t-and that’s okay. Progress for those of us with chronic illness comes from the tiny, steady choices we repeat, not from being flawless. I show up again tomorrow, adjust, and keep going. You’re allowed to take it one small step at a time. Want to read more about gentle, sustainable care? Visit https://wix.to/IBS9Tqk 💙✨
