Hey everyone! My internet has been acting up in the evenings so I prerecorded the video for tonight!
Tonight I will be demonstrating how to make a salad in the jar! In the video I mention a homemade dressing, here is the recipe:
Sweet and Tangy Balsamic Vinaigrette
2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons honey
4 drops Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime or Orange Young Living Vitality essential oil
4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Wish all ingredients together until well combined.
(recipe found on Young Living Blog)
The layers for the Salad in the Jar:
Layer 1: Dressing of your choice (2-4 tablespoons)
Layer 2: Hard veggies (ex: carrots, cucumbers, black beans, kidney beans)
Layer 3: Fruits/soft veggies (ex: tomatoes, strawberries, bell peppers, mushrooms)
Layer 4: Grains/nuts/other (quinoa, nuts, seeds, dried fruits, fresh herbs)
Layer 5: Greens (ex: romaine, kale, spring mix, and spinach)
Salad in the Jar Ideas:
Caprese Salad: Balsamic Vinaigrette, Purple Onion, Tomatoes, Quinoa, Mozzarella Cheese, Spinach
Greek Salad: Greek Vinaigrette, Chickpeas, Cucumber, Tomato, Purple Onion, Spinach
Antioxidant Packed Salad: Vinaigrette, Bell Pepper, Blueberries, Avocado, Alfalfa sprouts, Walnuts, Romaine
Strawberry Spinach Salad: Vinaigrette, Cooked Quinoa, Strawberries, Sunflower Seeds, Green Onions, Feta, Spinach
Because of the glitchy internet and storms predicted for tonight I prefilmed my DIY. Please comment, ask questions and interact as normal because I will be on FB and Instagram from 8-9 pm to respond.
The Oil Cleansing Method!
Suggestions for oils to use!
Jojoba (all skin types, but very good for acne-prone skin)
Sweet almond (all skin types, especially oily)
Grapeseed (all skin types, especially oily)
Avocado (dry and aging skin)
Sunflower Seed (all skin types)
Olive (all skin types)*
Apricot Kernel (dry, aging, and normal skin)
Argan (all skin types, especially aging skin but very pricey)
Tamanu (all skin types but very pricey)
*Coconut oil can be used to remove eye makeup but is not recommended for oil cleansing because it is a known comedogenic. It may actually clog pores and make blackheads worse.
Ratios depending on your skin type.
You may have to play around with these to figure out what works best! And you may use one mixture in the summer and another in the winter when the skin is drier!
Oily skin: Use 2/3 castor oil to 1/3 carrier oil. (Or measure out 2 tsp castor oil and 1 tsp carrier oil.)
Normal skin: Use equal parts castor oil and carrier oil. (Measuring out 1-1/2 tsp castor oil and 1-1/2 tsp carrier oil.)
Dry skin: Use 1/3 castor oil and 2/3 carrier oil. (Again, 2 tsp carrier oil and 1 tsp castor oil.)
So for me I’m in between normal and dry so I use 1/3 castor oil and 2/3 jojoba oil.
Essential Oils to add Tea Tree, Joy, Frankincense, Lavender, Manuka
1. Turn on your hot water. Start with a dirty face, rinse your face lightly with water or pat face with a little warm running water.
2. Take your pre-mixed oil (use suggestion and ratios above) and massage it into your entire face gently. Always move upward massaging firmly but gently. Massage for 2 minutes and then let the oil sit on your face for 30 more seconds or more.
3. Rinse! By now you should have very hot water coming out of your faucet. Adjust the heat if you need to so that it’s cool enough to apply to your skin, but warm enough to soften the oil. It definitely will be hotter than the water you normally use to wash your face. Dunk the washcloth under the hot/warm water until it’s soaked completely. Apply the washcloth to your face and hold it there for 10-15 seconds. Slowly begin to gently wipe off. Rinse your washcloth and repeat until you’ve wiped all of the oil off of your skin.
Follow with your toner and moisturizer. A simple but great moisturizer especially for night is Jojoba oil in a 2 oz. dropper with 15-20 drops Joy and 15-20 drops Frankincense. Young Living also has toner and several different kinds of plant based moisturizers for every skin type.

💫ThursDIY: Thieves Wipes💫
Staying home has given us some good time to get a whole lot of things done. We’ve washed all the laundry in the house. We rearranged furniture in our youngest daughters’ room. We’re also cleaning a lot more.
And we’re so thankful for our Thieves Household Cleaner. It is plant-based, smells like Christmas, can be used on any surface, concentrated, and no need to open the window because no toxic chemicals means it won’t harm you or your peeps. This is something we can control right now.
One of our favorite DIYs are these Thieves wipes. They’re so great for cleaning up quick messes and wiping down surfaces.
Here’s the recipe:
A glass container
A roll of paper towels - cut in half
2 cups warm water
2 capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
4 drops Lemon Essential Oil (opt)
Place the paper towel roll in your jar. Combine water, Thieves Household Cleaner, and oil together in a bowl. Pour the mixture over the paper towels. You should be able to pull the cardboard center out after a few minutes. That’s it and SAVE this post for when you’re ready to make your own😉. Be well, friends! 📸: @brebloomquist
Throwing it way back to when we could still gather. Those were the days. We sure are missing our awesome community! Hope you are all well and staying home if you’re not essential. 😘
Friends of The Makery! We are here. We’re such a small space and we typically have, at most, 12 people per workshop. So no large gatherings for us. Just small, sorta kinda intimate ones😉.
We’re following the COVID-19 situation very closely and are sanitizing everything twice with Thieves Household Cleaner. We’re diffusing Thieves on repeat as well.
