Mindfulness meditation is a practice of focused awareness on the present moment, without judgment. It involves paying attention to your breath, physical sensations, thoughts, and feelings as they arise, without getting carried away by them.

Balance, mobility and creative movement. In this course, we’ll be moving to spark possibility and presence. We’ll be putting the FUN in functional movement as we explore how to embrace our physical realities and learn to move more freely in everyday activities by being reactive, adaptive and nimble.

We’ll explore the 7 functional movements:
Bending/Hinge
Squatting
Lunging
Twisting/Rotation
Pulling
Pushing
Walking (gait)
We’ll take some interesting approaches that are yoga-esque but hit different! Learn to support and strengthen the movement patterns that your body relies on to get tasks done every day. Functional movement is about strengthening the muscles that support the joint in order to reduce the chance for injury and to improve our biomechanics.

NEXT SUNDAY get functional!

Movements are considered functional if they support and strengthen the movement patterns that your body relies on to get tasks done every day.

Think about how you pull a box off a shelf, squat down to pick something heavy up or push a lawn mower. There’s a strength behind all those movements. We’ll explore how to enhance those strength profiles so day-to-day you’re improving your quality of life.

Using your hands to assist in a pose (ex tree pose) shows flexibility, where you get to without that assistance is your mobility. When we train mobility, we use the muscles involved in that movement to make it happen, strengthening the muscles that support the joint. This is what defines functional training.

Explore movement that may be missing from your yoga practice and break free of the rectangle of your yoga mat!

Locally owned and operated since 2008, we are a one of a kind studio with friendly staff, knowledgeable teachers and a variety of yoga and healing arts styles. Enjoy beautiful practice spaces with expert care in the heart of downtown’s burgeoning Central Business District. Group yoga classes, specialty series and workshops, private instruction, meditation groups, yoga teacher training, massage therapy, and massage continuing education courses round out our wellness services. At Glowing Body, our students range from absolute beginners, to yoga teachers and massage therapists in training. Most importantly, we provide a retreat from modern stresses, and equip clients with alternative and complementary methods for wellness and healing which improve quality of life. Happy Practicing!
