Many EMS Agencies in Kentucky are willing to go above and beyond the minimum requirements so that they are ready to provide high quality pediatric emergency care. Because pediatric patients are different in many ways from our adult patients, and we see a smaller number of critically ill and injured children, it is even more important to put extra effort into being prepared to care for them when it matters most.
The Kentucky Emergency Medical Services for Children EMS Pediatric Recognition Program honors EMS Agencies who meet established criteria, beyond regulatory requirements, which are designed to improve the agency's capabilities to deliver care to pediatric patients.
We want the leaders in our profession who have demonstrated a commitment to caring for his vulnerable population to recieve the recognition they deserve from both the public and their peers.

For the health of our patients, visitors, health care providers and communities, we ask that people do not visit our facilities, including senior services and long-term care locations. For mother/baby and pediatric patients, visitors are limited to a designated partner or primary caretaker/guardian (only one at a time). Exceptions will be considered based on end-of-life situations or when a visitor is essential for the patient's emotional well-being and care.
We recognize that this can be disappointing to our visitors, patients and residents, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you or your family. The health of you and our patients/residents is our top priority.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Ballard County Emergency Management is providing this release in an effort to keep the citizens of Ballard County informed on what is going on with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Commonwealth. This afternoon Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack and Kentucky Emergency Management Director Michael Dossett conducted a conference call with Local Emergency Managers with an update to the COVID-19 outbreak. At this time there are only 6 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 Virus in the Commonwealth. The confirmed cases come from Harrison, Fayette and Jefferson Counties. Gov. Beshear has Declared the Commonwealth in a State of Emergency due to the outbreak, however the State of Emergency was declared to give government officials flexibility to help prevent a widespread outbreak.
At this time the COVID-19 Virus is expected to spread more across the Commonwealth just as any virus would. Local Officials want to express that THERE IS NO REASON TO PANIC. Citizens can protect themselves against the COVID-19 Virus by simply practicing good hygiene and taking extra time to ensure that all surface areas are disinfected on a regular basis. Citizens can take steps to protect yourself by:
• Washing you hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
• If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• Put distance between yourself and others.
Not only is it important to protect yourself, but take steps to protect others by:
• STAY HOME if you are sick, except to get medical care.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
• Throw used tissues in the trash.
Just as the common flu older adults and people who have serious chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease are at a higher risk of getting very sick with the COVID-19. It is known that 80% of the people that contract the COVID-19 will recover and be just fine, children 15 years old and under often show no symptoms of even having the COVID-19. We would like to point out that right now there are 22,000 cases of the common flu in the Commonwealth that have resulted in 85 deaths, that shows the scale that we are working with.
Lastly, I want to ensure you that the Commonwealth and Local Governments are on top of the situation. We are taking every stride needed to ensure that we are prepared to handle the COVID-19 if it was to arrives in Western Kentucky. I also want to point out that Ballard County Emergency Services will be fully operational if the risk levels were to rise and would be throughout the entire event.

Thanks to our EMSC for Children program and our Data team, the 2018 Pediatric Incidents Report for patients 17 years of age and under is now available! For the 2018 reporting period, 41,137 pediatric incidents were reported to KSTARS, accounting for 4.6% of all incidents. Data is crucial to what we do, and helps us plan for future programming with improved care at top-of-mind!

We want thank everybody that came out and helped with our “Christmas Angels” event Friday night. Thanks to our wonderful community, Ballard County Emergency Services were able to bring Christmas to over 40 children this year! That is more then double the amount we were able to help last year! We are so thankful to everyone who donated time, money, toys, food, and drinks.
