Happy Wellness Wednesday!☀️
Here’s your reminder to stop waiting for motivation!

We’ve all been there. You plan to work out, eat a balanced meal, go for a walk, or finally start that healthy habit… but when the time comes, you just aren’t feeling it.

Here’s your reminder: You don’t have to feel motivated to get started!

Motivation is great when it shows up, but it naturally comes and goes. Building healthy habits is about learning to show up even when you don’t feel 100% motivated.

Here are a few ways to get started:

Start small. Don’t feel like doing a full workout? Try 10 minutes of movement. Something is better than nothing!

Make it easy. Lay out your workout clothes the night before, keep a water bottle nearby, or prepare a healthy snack ahead of time.

Focus on consistency, not perfection. Missing a day doesn’t mean you’ve failed. What matters is getting back into your routine.

Remember your WHY. Whether you want to feel stronger, have more energy, improve your health, or keep doing the activities you love, remind yourself what you’re working toward.

Celebrate the little wins. Every time you follow through on a small commitment to yourself, you’re building a habit you can carry forward.

And remember, rest is productive, too! This isn’t about pushing yourself when you’re exhausted or ignoring what your body needs. It’s about not letting the pursuit of perfection stop you from making progress.

You don’t need to change your entire lifestyle overnight. You just need a place to start.

Happy Monday! Here’s a friendly reminder from your PT…

Your body needs movement, not perfection!

You don’t need to spend hours at the gym, follow a perfect routine, or hit a certain number of steps every single day to take care of your body. Sometimes, the little things make the biggest difference!

Here are some examples of things you can do throughout your day to keep yourself healthy and moving:
- Take a short walk between tasks.
- Get up and change positions throughout the day.
- Drink some water.
- Give yourself a few minutes to stretch or move.
- Find activities that help you feel stronger and more confident in your body.

Remember, movement is about so much more than burning calories or checking a workout off your to-do list. It supports your overall health, helps you maintain strength and mobility, and allows you to keep doing the things you love.

And here’s your reminder that something is always better than nothing. A little movement on a busy day still counts. A rest day when your body needs it is okay, too. Consistency doesn’t mean perfection!

At Perform Physical Therapy, we believe in helping you build healthy habits, move with confidence, and keep doing what makes you feel your best💛

Wellness Wednesday!☀️

Who says you need a gym membership or an hour-long workout to be active?

Carrying groceries, taking the stairs, gardening, cleaning the house, or playing with your kids all get your body moving! These everyday activities can help build endurance, challenge your muscles, and keep you moving throughout the day.

We often think exercise only counts when we’re in workout clothes, lifting weights, or breaking a sweat at the gym. But the truth is, movement is movement!

The little things you do throughout the day add up, and staying active doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. Whether you’re hitting the gym, chasing your dog around the yard, or carrying all your grocery bags in one trip because you’re determined not to make a second trip (we’ve all been there), you’re using your body in ways that matter!

At Perform Physical Therapy, we believe wellness is about more than just workouts. It’s about building the strength, mobility, and confidence to do the things you enjoy in everyday life!

Happy Monday!!

From ACL recovery to the Chicago Marathon!

This past Sunday marked a full-circle moment worth celebrating! Exactly two years ago, on October 12, our former patient, Emma went through an extensive ACL and meniscus repair surgery, after suffering an ACL and meniscus tear. This past weekend, she crossed the finish line of the Chicago Marathon…. a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and determination it takes to come back from an injury!

As a former Perform Physical Therapy patient, we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate this incredible milestone with her! Recovery is about so much more than healing from an injury. It’s about rebuilding strength, trusting your body, and finding your way back to the things you love.

Two years post-op, 26.2 miles later, and so much to be proud of. Congratulations, Emma on this amazing accomplishment! We are so proud of you!

Your comeback is worth celebrating. Keep performing! 💙

Happy Fun Fact Friday!

I’m sure many of us grew up hearing the warning that cracking our knuckles is going to cause arthritis, but is there actually any truth behind it?

Good news! That familiar popping sound isn’t your bones grinding together! Your joints actually contain a fluid that helps keep them lubricated and moving smoothly. When you crack your knuckles, a change in pressure inside the joint causes a gas-filled cavity to form, creating that popping sound you hear.

But here’s the big question… does it cause arthritis?

No! Research has not shown that habitual knuckle cracking causes arthritis. So, despite what you may have been told growing up, cracking your knuckles doesn’t automatically mean you’re damaging your joints!

However, if cracking a joint causes pain, swelling, or persistent discomfort, it’s worth getting checked out. There’s a difference between a harmless pop and a joint that’s telling you something isn’t right.

The takeaway? Not everything we’ve heard about our bodies is true! Understanding how our bodies work helps us separate common myths from facts and make more informed decisions about our health.

We hope everyone has a great weekend!

Happy Monday! In addition to Physical Therapy Month, October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This month is a reminder to pause, check in with ourselves, and prioritize our health. Knowing your body, recognizing changes, keeping up with recommended screenings, and speaking up when something doesn’t feel right are all important parts of taking care of yourself.

But this month is also about the people behind the statistics—the women who have fought, those who are still fighting, those who have overcome, and the families and loved ones who have stood beside them💗

To anyone who has been affected by breast cancer in any way, please know that you are seen, supported, and never alone.

Take a moment this month to check in with yourself, encourage the women you love to do the same, and remember that your health is worth making time for, not just in October, but all year long.

Know your body. Know your normal. Take care of you.

Happy Wellness Wednesday!☀️

We’re all about your health and wellness today!

When we think about being “healthy,” exercise is often the first thing that comes to mind, but wellness is much bigger than how often you work out.Movement is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, but so are the things we do outside of the gym.

- Nutrition helps provide the energy and nutrients your body needs.

- Sleep gives your body and brain time to recover and recharge.

- Stress management can help support both your mental and physical well-being.

- Recovery allows your body to adapt to the demands you place on it.

- Connection and relationships are also an important part of overall well-being.

You don’t have to do every single thing perfectly. Wellness isn’t about checking every box every day, it’s about creating habits that support your health over time.

Sometimes wellness looks like getting your workout in. Sometimes it looks like taking a rest day, eating a nourishing meal, getting an extra hour of sleep, taking a walk, or simply giving yourself a break.

**Your health is more than your workouts. Take care of the whole you!**

Happy Monday! We hope everyone had a great weekend!

Are you having pain or soreness? Knowing the difference can help you know when to keep moving and when to take a step back.

Muscle soreness after exercise is common, especially when you try a new exercise, increase your intensity, or challenge your muscles in a different way. It often feels dull, achy, or tender and typically develops within 12–48 hours after exercise.

Pain can feel different. Sharp, sudden, or worsening pain (especially pain that occurs during a movement or is accompanied by swelling, instability, or difficulty using the affected area) is something to pay closer attention to.

That doesn’t mean all pain = injury or all soreness = good. Your symptoms, how they behave, and how they change over time all matter.

Not sure what you’re feeling? A physical therapist can help you understand your symptoms and develop a plan to keep you moving toward your goals.

Happy Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that the music you listen to during a workout can actually change how exercise feels?

Research has found that listening to music during exercise can decrease perceived exertion, meaning your workout may feel a little easier, even when your body is still working just as hard. Music can help shift your attention away from feelings of fatigue and discomfort, while also increasing motivation and making exercise feel more enjoyable.

The tempo can matter, too! Faster-paced music may help you maintain a quicker rhythm during activities like running, walking, or cycling. And when a song has a strong beat, it can naturally give you something to move along with!

Of course, music isn’t a replacement for proper training, recovery, or listening to your body… but if putting on your favorite playlist helps you enjoy your workout and keep moving, that’s a pretty great reason to press play!

So next time you’re struggling through those last few minutes, turn up the volume and see if your favorite song gives you that extra push.

If you have a favorite song that makes its way onto your workout playlist, drop it in the comments!
