“Lighting’s always an issue for me. As a tattoo artist especially the older I get because my eyes are not as young’s they used to be. We all go to conventions or go to other studios to do guest spots and we don’t always have control over the lighting. So with the it creates illumination just in the area that you’re gonna tattoo, which is just enough to get you going and apply tattoo properly.”

In this clip, we sat down with our brother 𝚂𝚝𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚗 𝙲. 𝙼𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚎𝚣 in his studio INK THEORY in Dallas to find out how and why he enjoys the X-LUMEN.

I had first heard about the X-LUMEN machine a couple of months ago and had no Idea what it was. The warm setting is my favorite personally. There’s always a place when you’re tattooing where you cover the actual light source that you have. But when I’m in a tough angle where I need turn my whole body and change my whole orientation where I might not have enough light, that’s whereI see the actual light of that machine being extremely useful.”

“The thing I hate the most and that gets in the way of my process is those lights that can fall on me and have to make sure they’re plugged in and that at the cords are out of the way. The whole concept of the XLumen has saved me a lot of hassle. The setting I go to the most is the high warm. I love warm lighting as most of my tattoos are warm I just love the effect it gives.”

Stoked we got our dear friend gabriel godinez in the chair to talk about his experience with the Freddy Negrete x Curved Pressed Mag Series. Here, Gabriel discusses what he looks for in a needle and why he enjoys the Pressed Mags.

“I work very deliberately and I try to make sure everything gets put in. I don’t build up values, I just wanna put it in and move on, and I feel these needles do that, especially in the smaller groupings. I still do a lot of animals, but one of the things I’m trying to play with more is are smaller portraits and needed something a little more precise. Before I kinda struggled with the smaller groupings and over working the skin in tight areas, and I feel like that where these Freddy Negrete x are shining a little bit more for me.”
