What Is a Soft Tissue Injury?

The Social Security Administration allows a disability for soft tissue injury (e.g., burns) of an upper or lower extremity, trunk, or face and head.

Examples of soft tissue injuries include nerve injuries, injuries to tendons and ligaments, injuries to arteries and veins, injuries to the lymphatic system, injuries to muscle, and injuries to skin.

The most likely accidents to produce these types of injuries are automobile, motorcycle, and work-related accidents.

If you do not already have a Colorado Social Security disability lawyer representing you, contact us for assistance. Use the form on this page to describe your claim, or email or call our office.

Uh-oh! SSA field offices are closed to the public, so that means the phones will be very very busy for an indefinite time. If the usual wait is 15 minutes, expect this to double.

The Awareness of Presence

Silence is not merely the absence of internal and external noise. Within the stillness arises our awareness of presence.

We can feel presence in an empty cathedral,
or standing in a mountain forest,
or in an open meadow at sunset
as the stars begin twinkling
while the echo of whip-o-will
dances across the woodland valley.

This silence soaks us with a stillness that allows us to become aware of the presence of eternity behind everything around us. Behind everything we see. Like pinpricks of light breaking through.

When I was five, I would stand out on the wide-open hillsides, gazing up at the stars with the moon shining over my shoulder...my heart would expand and soak in the presence of eternity.

God is all around us. Silence allows us to become aware in the stillness, of God's presence.

Another time we were flying into Jackson Hole. The airport is in the middle of Grand Tetons National Park. We were off boarding the plane, stepping onto the tarmac, when the vast silence enveloped me. I broke down and wept. I was home.

In the Celtic lands, these are called thin places. The silence brings us into a stillness where we are able to become aware of the presence of eternity all around us. It's an awareness of seeing that everything is connected, everything is interwoven, and everything belongs.

Silence brings us to our senses, and stillness brings us home.

He leads me beside the still waters,
He restores my soul.
~ Psalm 23:2

Release from SSA:

Reports of Fraudulent Phone Calls
We have received reports about fraudulent phone calls from individuals impersonating Social Security employees, including Ticket to Work Help Line staff.
The callers have masked their phone numbers as the Ticket to Work Help Line’s phone number. If you receive this fraudulent call, you may hear a recorded message that states that your benefits will end or that your Social Security Number will be suspended. The call then prompts you to “press 1” to connect to a live person. Do not press 1. Instead, hang up.
If you suspect you have received a scam call, you should report the details of the call to the Social Security Administration's Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271 or online at https://oig.ssa.gov/report.
The Office of the Inspector General at the Social Security Administration, offers tips to protect yourself from scams. You can review these tips at https://oig.ssa.gov/newsroom/scam-awareness

Medicare scam: you are contacted with an offer to pay for free genetic testing, and told that Medicare will pay for it. The scammer gets your medicare number and commits fraud (send fake bills from fake doctors to Medicare) or for other identity theft purposes. Don't fall for this.

A good read for those applying for private long or short term disability too.

A good read for those applying for private long or short term disability too.

If you are applying for Social Security Disability, one of the first things you should do is ensure that your social media accounts are set to private. Social media can be a great way for people with disabilities to stay connected to friends and family, but the pictures and posts rarely convey what is actually happening in someone's life, especially someone who is sick or in pain. Currently, SSA is not supposed to review claimant's social media accounts, however, that could change:

Report Fraud, Waste, or Abuse | Office of the Inspector General, SSA

As many of you know, there are multiple scams out there pretending to be SSA. One well known scam comes from this LA, California phone number. Please note this number is NOT associated with SSA. 310-684-3816 An automated system calls and tells you there is a problem with your SSN and your SSN has been 'suspended'. They ask you to call them back and give this number. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK. Do NOT give your SSN over the phone. They often tell you that you have reached the 'investigative department' of SSA and the agent tells you they are Officer ______. They ask for your SSN to continue the call. If you decline, the call becomes sexually vulgar in nature. You are best not to return these calls. Please note, some scam calls spoof SSA and display SSA real phone number of 800-772-1213 on your caller ID. Use extreme caution. SSA will communicate with you via US Mail. If you suspect you have received a scam call, please contact the Office of Inspector General at 800-269-0271 or oig.ssa.gov/report. If you believe you have a legitimate concern to discuss with SSA, please call our office to obtain your local field office phone number.
