Disabled people are NOT a burden.
Not to their families.
Not to their communities.
Not to society.
They are human beings with dreams, feelings, talents, personalities, purpose, and a whole lot to contribute.
Yes, disability can come with challenges. It can require caregiving, accommodations, medical care, equipment, advocacy, and support. But needing support does not make someone less valuable.
Our loved ones should never have to earn their right to belong by proving how āindependentā they can be.
They belong because they are human.
They matter because they are human.
They deserve dignity, respect, opportunity, accessibility, friendship, and inclusion.
And for the parents and caregivers who sometimes feel exhausted by the weight of the systems we have to navigate: the support you provide does not mean your child is a burden. It means you love someone deeply and are fighting for a world where they can fully participate in it.
Letās stop asking, āWhat can they contribute?ā before deciding whether someone belongs.
Letās start asking, āWhat can we change so everyone has the opportunity to belong?ā
āæļøš Support. Include. Empower.
Because disabled people arenāt a burden.
They are part of our families. Part of our communities. Part of us. ā¤ļø
