Wow...10 years ago today. So much has changed since then, and yet when I look at that girl, as lost and hurting and alone as she felt, I still see me. I see her hunger for truth, her refusal to settle, her fear offset by a stubborn bravery that eventually proved stronger, much stronger, than the lies even she believed about herself.

Never judge a person for their faults and failings today. You don’t know where they are on their journey, in their process, and you don’t know where they are headed. They might surpass you...and have the opportunity to open a door for you later in life. Or you might never get to see what they become.

But if you will choose to see even the “least” through the eyes of one who loves them, including yourself, then you help to accelerate that reality for their life and instead of adding to the problem, you will become part of the solution.

The Bible calls this “eternal lasting fruit,” and it pays both temporal and eternal dividends.

As a Jesus-loving daughter of the Most lovely and Most High God I must say...life will challenge you on every level...but every challenge has within it an opportunity to become stronger.

This is not a “brute” strength where we pull out our killer kung fu skillz to beat bad guys... Truly, every situation will call for a different expression of the strength it’ll magnify from within you.

Just keep in mind that most of us, including you, probably won’t be back fi***ng any super-villains from rooftops...or roping down from a helicopter into the top floor of a high rise to secretly plant a bomb in the lab where lethal liquid is being stored for release into the water supply by a group of deranged, clown-faced evildoers (thank you Marvel + DC Comics for the ideas, though)... The super villains we face daily are very real, and very dangerous... They masquerade as “justified” worry or frustration or “indignation” or impatience... ...they pretend to be normal, and somewhat harmless... ...but they are deadly. This is true physically as we know the chemistry behind these chronic emotional states promote cancer, low immunity, endocrine disruption, and on and on.

But I submit to you something I learned first in the Bible and then through experience: a cheerful heart, JOY, peace and patience - these things come from God. These things make you STRONG. Not just strong but POWERFUL.

Worshipping God is lifting your heart to give thanks...it’s recognizing your creator and engaging the most astonishing opportunity available to mankind. Namely, communing with - not just the universe - but the MAKER of the universe. Right there in your car, your living room, wherever.

You don’t have to meditate for a million lifetimes or eat nothing but flower petals being careful not to accidentally harm any tiny bugs...in the attempt to eliminate the karmic cycle... You need only lift your heart and thoughts ... “ascribe WORTH-SHIP” to the remarkably personal God who is ever and always with you...
...ever and always FOR you.

This will protect you from toxic (when chronic) emotional states. It will keep you from shadow boxing devils. It will keep you in peace...and brimming with love.

Let's just consider this in terms of nutrition, diet and wellness.

(Thank you Precision Nutrition for this awesome capturing of a vital truth. You guys are so rock steady.)

So often, too often, we lean on science as if it were definitive...ever. And then we fight over it, "standing on" some revelation we read about in a study or series of studies.

But listen...

While science is freaking AWESOME and just so much fun...

...It's never...ever...ever definitive. Like ever! Because one new detail come to light can change the entire revelation.

We must always remain aware of this.

We must also remain circumspect...because studies always have flaws.

Sometimes, the flaw is in the method (like testing rats and crossing our fingers that the results will transfer similarly to people).

Sometimes its strength also presents a weakness...such as testing a huge group people, which is awesome, but with broad observations weeding out smaller, but potentially significant, dtails that could really change the perspective on study results.

Anyhoo...be careful not to divert your faith to something masquerading as "solid," but which is actually helpful...but quite fluid.

Faith just means trust.

You know what I really trust? I trust your ability to get to know your own body...to take your time, to observe, to become strong, and to hear that "still small voice" within (the Spirit and Person of Christ within you).

Aside from that, which is deeply native to us...

We should study...

We should garner everything we can from the observations and conclusions found via the awesome discipline of science.

We should not trust so heavily in the science we agree with...

...that we become dogmatic...

...or argue or try to prove each other wrong (or right), because science has not figured out the human body, or the brain, or hormones, or the best diet, or the worst diet, or why some people like kale and some people taste soap whenever they eat cilantro.

Actually, they do have some interesting explanations as to the latter two...

...but I digress.

The point is...be a learner, gosh dang it.

Just keep observing, being your own personal scientist as you glean from the scientific community at large...

...and learn from your experiences without pushing it on other people.

They are different. There may be reasons we have yet to understand that their body responds in a way different than yours.

In fact, you can bet on that.

Respect other people's right to learn something different, and bless their opportunity to explore something different. They're just finding out for themselves, like you are. Honor their experience. And I pray you would be a powerful force for creating a Culture of Honor.

...and keep it movin.

To successfully grow stronger, healthier, more fit and with a taste for more nutritious foods, you'll need to experience the journey through all of life's normal ebbs and flows. "Holiday" season included!

During this season, your eating and exercise rhythm might change, so it's a great time to build or practice staying active and well nourished right in the midst of celebrations.

Don’t think all-or-nothing. Just remember to ADD a little extra nutrition wherever you can.

In other words, there is no perfect time to focus on your health, nutrition or fitness. Except of course...NOW.

It's fine to have an intense short-term goal if you want (like prepping for a physique competition or trimming down for your wedding dress), but the means to a quick change will not sustain you for the long haul.

Focus on simple, approachable habits like a few more veggies at dinner, or being consistent with a high quality supplement (you know, the one sitting in your cupboard collecting dust?). Change your thinking about health and fitness if you need to. Ride the waves as seasons change, and stick with it! Better are a few consistent health-promoting habits than an entire lifestyle overhaul all-at-once that may get you there quicker, but may also shock your systems, send your hormones and metabolism haywire, and leave you soon back where you started or slightly behind.

"Getting lean is a process of TINY bits of fat loss over a long period of time. The day-to-day fat loss is small. But... Over time this is what creates our ideal physique. Even a little bit more fat loss each workout adds up to a lot (given enough time). So... Don't discount the cumulative fat loss effect of adding a bit of walking into your workouts. Walking at the END of your workouts is ideal. Intense exercise opens up a fat loss window-of-opportunity..." "Almost any type of intense exercise like lifting weights or HIIT will release fat from fat cells into your blood stream. Some of this fat is used during the intense exercise. But... A lot of this released fat gets redeposited back as body fat. This is where walking comes into play. Walking is the best way to burn this body fat once it is released. Some people think walking is "for the birds". But... Walking after intense exercise makes a huge difference over the course of a year. When possible...
