Is prom happening this year? You bet it is!!!โฃ

This year, prom looks a little different! We couldnโt safely bring the children and families we serve to a large prom, so we decided to bring prom to them!โฃ

We are delivering a mobile prom to each child and family on our programs. No matter how far or bumpy the road, we want to see each child and family filled with joy during these difficult times.โฃ

This year, our Night to Shine theme is โShine Wherever You Are!โ Even if lockdown measures keep children and families at home, they are still worthy of celebration and a night to shine. Thatโs our mission until every single one of the children and families we serve have their Night to Shine.โฃ

Smiles like Ashaโs keep us going each and every day at Ekisa. Thankfully, we get to see a lot more of them with school open again ๐โฃ

While school has started for all our students, children in our transitional home are still on lockdown because of the pandemic. Please join us in prayer for them. Pray that they would be filled with Godโs peace and joy, and that they would be able to smile often despite these hard circumstances ๐

This is William. Heโs a man with a deep faith, a heart of gold, and is a long-time friend and helper to Ekisa. Over the past 5 years, he has worked relentlessly to serve over a hundred children with disabilities and their families with two hands and a motorcycle. Thatโs because he intimately knows how important support is for children with disabilities.โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
โI had a daughter who lived with disability,โ says William. โHer name was Noelina. I really loved her, but I wasnโt able to reach her needs and I didn't give her special care, as me and no one else could attend to her. I had no time to stay with her, as I was ever trying to work for the survival of her and the whole family. Noelina could not fit in with others because of discrimination, which really hurt me. I reached a time when I could no longer afford medication for her. Eventually, she passed away.โโฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
It was an immensely difficult time for William as he mourned the loss of his daughter. But one day, William found a way to move forward and honor his daughterโs life.โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
โLater, I learned of Ekisa Ministries and what they do to help children with special needs and their families,โ William recalls. โI felt a connection because of my late daughter and I started getting involved in running errands and all sorts of tasks for Ekisa on my motorcycle.โโฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
William wishes he could have had Ekisaโs support services for his daughter, but he has found new meaning for his life by serving other parents and their children.โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
โHelping Ekisa has been so amazing in my life. I love Ekisa because of the special parental help to the children with special needs.โโฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
As for the past 10 months, William has been especially busy, helping deliver supplies to families and Ekisa workers restricted by lockdown measures.โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
โIt's by God's powers that I managed to serve Ekisa Ministries with lots of tasks and attending to emergencies like picking up medicines from various hospitals or clinics. I did the same for many families who work with Ekisa since they were all indoors on lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I really thank Ekisa to choose and trust me to serve during this situation.โโฃ
โฃ
William is also a leader in his community, and his care for those around him showed as he started to freely give to those in need. โฃ
โฃ
โI used to share with others whatever I could earn from Ekisa, such as the neighbors and other drivers who could not get any money during lockdown.โโฃ
โฃ
Eventually, William started receiving donations from outsiders who learned of what he was doing. He started handing out food, supplies, and sanitizer. โฃ
โฃ
And now, heโs looking to the future.โฃ
โฃ
โI hope to serve Ekisa more, especially early this year where the virus is still spreading and the election is happening. I will always mantain serving people following the World Health Organizationโs rules to avoid the spread of coronavirus.โ

We bring people out of isolation and into community -- educating parents about disability, providing a loving support system, and equipping them to be agents of change in their own communities. A Message To Our Founder
Our dear founder, Emily, co-started Ekisa Ministries 10 years ago in Uganda. We were small. The need was big. Her faithfulness to the mission and vision of Ekisa has led to visible life change for countless children with disabilities and their families in Uganda. At the same time, she has also had a profound impact on our 80+ staff members. The Orphan Myth
There are millions of children living in orphanages, but most of them are not orphans. For a variety of reasons that include poverty, stigma, and human trafficking, many children are placed in orphanages by their families.โฃ โฃ Both Scripture and research affirm that children have the best opportunity to thrive within a family. James is accepted by his community
โJames knows how to play with the rest of the kids. They sing together. Heโs used to staying with the rest of the kids in the community, which is better than him staying with only children with disabilities.โโฃ โ Rosemary, Jamesโ motherโฃ โฃ Although it was hard at first, James was eventually accepted by those in his community. These days, you can find him running around with his friends, who choose to love him no matter what.โฃ

Our Vision is a World Where Every Child is Celebrated in a Family
In Uganda, children living with special needs and disabilities suffer from discrimination and a lack of services to help them participate fully in society. They are often isolated, marginalized, and even shunned as disability is seen as a curse. Parents often fear taking their children into public and have little or no knowledge about disability.
We are working to fight these cultural stigmas by teaching families and communities about the value of every person. We directly serve over 100 children living with special needs through our Community Care Outreach and Residential Care programs by providing psychosocial services, education, the gospel, and medical care.
We envision a world where every child is seen as โfearfully and wonderfully made.โ
