I said yes to something that scared the f**k out of me. Not because I am scared of the patients.
I was scared of the memories.
But as my friend says "f**k fear"
Don't get me wrong I had to work through my own s**t to get here but I am here.
I took the job as the yoga teacher on Tuesdays for the adults unit of retired and active law enforcement at the behavioral hospital.
Thank you I am forever grateful for being able to share the message. 💚
You are not alone.
This is where my grief took me on a hearts-journey.🌻

The answer to this question has many layers, so here's part 1!
Have you heard of the vagus nerve?
It's the largest nerve in the body and one of it's main jobs is to balance the two branches of the nervous system: sympathetic (think S for Stress) and parasympathetic (rest and digest).
Many different practices within TRY help to tone or strengthen this nerve. This is called "vagal toning."
Some of them include:
- deep, diaphragmatic breaths
- neck rolls
- forward fold & slowly roll up
- seated twist
- lots more
More on the science behind TRY to come!

I have been called to speak at a few events this month including serving funeral directors, emergency room staff and surgical residents.
This morning I was inspired to create some take away treats for each of these amazing souls who see us through our most challenging times. This blend oil that I create with love in my home kitchen is called #justbeathe A recipe developed by me to help us post trauma, find our breath again. Full and flowing.
So blessed to be on this path, in my #nextchapter speaking, inspiring, motivating, and sharing these tools for a lifetime from my life's work @the_try_method.

T.R.Y. Trauma Recovery Yoga is a socially conscious organization changing the world by facilitating self-compassion and global healing through training individuals in the TRY method of yoga science. Joyce Bosen and Darwin Bosen are the founders of T.R.Y.; Joyce has experienced compound trauma first hand and was diagnosed with PTSD in 2012 from these experiences.
This unique and powerful method was birthed from her pain has become T.R.Y. Trauma Recovery Yoga. T.R.Y. has received multiple awards for the work they have done in their city and with over 150 teachers delivering the method all over the world, seen some great results with contracts in cities at-risk public schools, veteran’s hospitals, mental health and drug rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, military bases, medical schools, transitional housing spaces, Fire departments, Police, ambulance, and Coroners agencies and much more.
Trauma Recovery Yoga teachers are in great demand around the world request for certified teachers are frequent, so, unlike other trainings, we keep in touch with our trainee’s post training. After receiving certification, trainees are invited to join our online platform for licensed T.R.Y. instructors. Which includes a signed licensing agreement giving them permission to represent this method in their community. Trainees are added to our online data base of licensed teachers that is made available to the public looking for our services in their area. Licensed T.R.Y. instructors also receive updates with the latest techniques or any changes to the method, access to video tools, online workshops, manual updates, new research findings, merchandise and resources to promote themselves and information on opportunities with agencies seeking T.R.Y. programs as they become available. Since this is a new field, the information must be kept current and so must the instructors. Therefore, regularly require all licensed practitioners to pass short quiz to confirm they are utilizing all the information we are making available on this platform to keep their license current.
This science based somatic method is one of a kind in many ways. Containing much more than yoga postures, it integrates many carefully thought out, researched and proven techniques into the a very specific yoga sequence that inspires a feeling of safety and connection. The method is accessible and adjustable to all levels young and old, including chair or bed bound individuals.
Over time we have found that this method not only helps people recover from past trauma but has also proven effective as a preventative resource to manage the body’s reaction to stress and trauma which can help those entering positions or activities that may expose them to traumatic events such as military or first responders. As for past trauma or PTSD when used as a complementary therapy, we have seen big success where there was little before.
T.R.Y. understands the prevalence of trauma in our communities, and the unfortunate fact that there are limited resources for these individuals to overcome and thrive. Even more distressing is the lack of somatic therapies in the community; post trauma, many individual’s connection with their body is lacking and this lack of connection or "disassociation" perpetuates a struggle dealing with stress, anxiety and abrupt unexpected situations “triggers”. Many individuals who struggle with trauma quite simply do not have the ability to "calm" after such situations. Stuck in a state of fear, some for many years. This stress then leads to a multitude of other health issues. Our work is to help these people of trauma find the route from fear to freedom. This is why, we insist our trainings and workshops are available and accessible, not only to yoga teachers but to anyone seeking to heal themselves or help heal others from trauma even if they have never stepped foot on a yoga mat before they join us.
Come and see me at the Wellness Wednesday Health Fair today.
I've been invited to do free 5 minute Reiki sessions at the table with Rev. Bryan Ostaszewski from Tuff Services Ministries.
Plus the founder of Trauma Recovery (The TRY method), Joywins, and my co-teachers will also be there.
We're excited to announce our very first online/in-person hybrid event open to everyone in the Route 91 community, Southern Nevada first responders, and victims of crime throughout the state! Joyce Bosen, creator of The TRY method, will lead a Trauma Recovery Yoga session for a small group at our Las Vegas location (2915 W Charleston Blvd, Ste 100) while it's livestreamed for everyone else to participate from wherever they are.

The TRY method
We are very excited to announce that Joyce and Darwin Bosen will be coming to Hothouse Yoga this August to teach their 20 hour course: Trauma Recovery Yoga.
About the TRY method:
Using Neuroscience And Yoga To Create Healing For All
The TRY method is for everyone. This organization facilitates empathy for others, self-compassion and global healing by training individuals in the TRY method of yoga, science, and psychology. What makes the TRY method unique is its grounding in neuroscience and understanding of how the brain processes trauma. The TRY method helps people recover and let go after crisis or trauma.
Our Full TRY Workshop is open to all caregivers, be it at home, professionally, or for oneself. This training will prepare you to work with populations in crisis who have experienced trauma. We will identify the obstacles and rewards of teaching yoga, meditation, and breathing techniques to these vulnerable populations. You will acquire new tools that will help you and allow you to facilitate others’ healing from the trauma of the past. Our workshop includes techniques for both on and off the yoga mat. Prior yoga experience is not required and while three hours of the 20-hour training are spent practicing movements, those are optional and may be spent in observation rather than practice. All trainees will walk away with new tools and the knowledge of the science behind those tools as well as the ability to offer a full TRY seated sequence and the basic understanding of the TRY mat sequence.
This course is for anyone who:
➡️has experienced trauma
➡️cares for someone who has experienced trauma
➡️works professionally to counsel trauma
➡️practices or teaches yoga and wants to expand their skills into trauma-sensitive yoga
➡️wants to deepen their own knowledge around trauma, self regulation, meditation and affirmation, breath and movement
CEUs available:
17 hours for Iowa social workers
20 hours for Yoga Alliance members

Twists, when paired with mindful breath, increase circulation and can be really detoxifying.

The TRY method
In our Mindful Movements class (TRY for youth), there are a few distinctions from the adult class. One of them being that our “closing meditation” is a series of long hums.
Yeah, you heard it right.😄
Why humming? This practice is a really quick, effective way to tone the vagus nerve, the largest nerve in the body that’s also responsible for parasympathetic messaging.🧠
Parasympa- what now?😜
That simply means that it puts our body in a calm state, signaling to the mind that all is well. Helping to recalibrate the nervous system, and bringing about an immediate sense of well-being.🙏🏼
So if you ever find yourself in a stressful situation and have the space to sit and hum?
Give it a try! It works regardless of age.😉

Visualization is powerful in all of our healing journeys.
It may sound silly sometimes, but as TRY Founder Joy Wins says, “the body believes what the mind sees.”
We use guided imagery in our classes (here, we’re holding our balloons!) to release what’s holding us back and imagine the possibilities of our dreams.😌🙌🏼
