I haven't known for the longest time just how to share this news. We are shocked and saddened as a family, and as an organization, and as a community. But we are also in awe of a life well lived, and we give thanks knowing this beautiful young lady and sweetest friend and her loving, precious family are part of our lives. We love you all...

Celebrating, “The Princess” Chardonnay A. Adams-Ambre
April 29,1995 - October 22, 2019

Chardonnay loved being with her family, volunteering for Give Me a Break, Inc., AmeriFace and Lutheran Social Services. Participating in the C.A.S.T. for Kids, fishing events, attending Camp Malibu with the City of Las Vegas Adaptive Recreation, during Spring Break. Cheering on the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, the Denver Broncos, Vegas Golden Knights and the men and women of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Champions), going to movies, socializing and event planning. She was very passionate about wanting to provide a forever home for special needs children in foster care.

Her warm smile and contagious sense of doing what is right will be missed. Chardonnay is survived by her parents, Scherrie Adams-Ambre and Glenn Allen, Sr. Siblings; Brian, Tiffany, Vencient-Michael, Christopher, Glenn Jr., Anthony and Courtenay. Her paternal grandmother, as well as her aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, 4040 East Wyoming Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89104

Please feel free to share a memory you have with Chardonnay, in the comments below.

Thank you all for your support and love during her transitioning.

Hello, AmeriFace/cleftAdvocate Families!

As the largest, most active support organization for the cleft/craniofacial community, many of our families will remember participating in the very first phase of this study. And now it's time to rally the troops again! If you have a child age 3 or younger, born with a cleft lip with or without cleft palate, this is your opportunity to shape the future of care for your child for years to come! Click now!

https://surveys.seattlechildrens.org/datstat/collector/Survey.ashx?Name=ICOO_parent_prioritization_survey

Below is the survey introduction from the researchers - my friends and colleagues who take the care of your children very seriously, who have worked tirelessly for decades to improve on treatment and outcomes. Your input is desperately needed. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me or the researchers at your convenience. [email protected]

ICOO Introduction:

Researchers in Seattle and Chicago are inviting parents of young children with a diagnosis of a cleft lip with or without palate to join this research study. The goal of our study is to create a questionnaire that will help researchers better understand aspects of health that are unique to infants with clefts. In a previous part of this study, we asked caregivers to share about their child’s cleft, cleft treatment, and observations of their child’s health and well-being.

In this next part of our study, we need parents and caregivers who have a child who is three years old or younger, and has a diagnosis of a cleft lip with or without cleft palate, to help us! We are asking parents to take the observations we’ve received from previous parent interviews and prioritize them, so we’ll know the most important items to include in our questionnaire.

To learn more about the study or take part in the survey, please go to:

Our AmeriFace/cleftAdvocate partners at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington are inviting parents of young children (under three years of age) with a diagnosis of a cleft lip with or without palate (not cleft palate only) to join this new research study! The goal is to create a questionnaire that will help researchers better understand aspects of health that are unique to infants with clefts. The questionnaire will be called the Infant Cleft Observer-Reported Outcomes Instrument, or “ICOO.” I've attached a flyer with full information, including a link to the start page (see the QR code). Spread the word! With your help, we are making a world of difference in a world of facial differences! https://redcap.iths.org/surveys/index.php?s=N8XWT7X98D

National Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness & Prevention Month (NCCAPM)

One of the most important accomplishments of our organization in these past 25 years, and of my own non-profit career personally, is the establishment of THE official cleft/craniofacial awareness month - if it's July, then it's National Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness & Prevention (NCCAPM)! The only cleft/craniofacial awareness month recognized by the CDC, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and by cleft/craniofacial clinics around the country and the world, we celebrate with all of you and recognize YOU - our volunteers - in all the fabulous work you do. AmeriFace, including the cleftAdvocate program, is the ONLY national/international cleft/craniofacial support and outreach organization that is 100% volunteer in nature, including myself and the entire staff. Our work in the field, on state and federal legislation to force insurance companies to honor their contracts for cleft/cranio care, and our award winning outreach program, the Pathfinder Outreach Network, are unsurpassed! So here's to another 25 years (at least) and to spreading the word during July - join us in Making a World of Difference in a World of Facial Differences!® http://www.nccapm.org

Americleft Study Survey

We need your feedback! In conjunction with the Americleft Psychosocial Outcomes Committee, we are asking parents to tell us how important various quality of life and adjustment outcomes are to them and their children. The link below will take families to a very short survey. We will be proposing parent/child interviews in addition to object data as part of the outcomes research.

The only requirement for participation in this phase is that the parent has a child with a cleft lip and/or palate of any age.

Please SHARE throughout the cleft lip/palate community, and feel free to contact me with any questions you may have by e-mailing me at [email protected]. Thank you!

Here is the DynaCleft information many have waited for! Remember, Canica was sold to Southmedic (also in Canada), finalized just a couple of weeks ago, and their representatives were at the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA) conference in Palm Springs last month. There I met Alex Hume, Research and Business Development Associate, who has provided the following information - Unilateral DynaCleft is $27 and Bilateral DynaCleft is $35 (both quantity 7/box). The Nasal Elevator is $48 for a box of 7 and $192 for a box of 28. Nasal Elevator is only sold with equal parts purchase of DynaCleft. Order directly from Southmedic corporate office by calling toll-free (800) 463-7146. http://southmedic.com/pr…/dynacleft-cleft-lip-approximation/

Hello. My name is Georgette Couvall and I'm one of Dr. Kenneth E. Salyer's (http://www.worldcf.org) patients. Here is my Personal Story Blog: https://georgettecouvall.wordpress.com/ Anyway, I was wondering if you all know of any Craniofacial/Cleft Camps either in Illinois or Dallas, Texas. I'm 44 years old and am looking for a job as a Counselor's Aide at a Craniofacial/Cleft Camp. Thank you.
My 5 year old daughter had buccal flap surgery to extend her palate 2 weeks ago. She already receives school based speech therapy, and we are interested in additional therapy in the clinical setting. When I brought this up to her surgeon and asked if a treatment plan could be developed by the slp working at the children's hospital (2 hrs away) for us to take to an slp near us, he told me that they don't even involve the speech therapist until 6 months post op. Does this seem to be what others have experienced? I understand she will be getting used to her "new anatomy", but waiting 6 months seems like loss of a huge opportunity for correcting the compensatory speech patterns she has developed.
