Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling Tarot History
11 am at the Lee Library
100 Main Street Lee Ma

Grab a coffee from Bliss Crumbs and Coffee and start your All Hallows Lee with with a ✨FREE✨ beginner-friendly journey into the living history behind the cards as Sinti-Romani generational fortune teller Jezmina Von Thiele explores how Tarot evolved from an Italian card game into a Romani survival trade, intuitive practice, and tool for community care.

Join Jezmina Von Thiele (they/she), speaker, educator, and generational fortune teller in their Sinti-Romani family tradition, for a welcoming, beginner-friendly talk on the history of tarot as a Romani survival trade. This talk explores tarot as an intuitive tool that started as an Italian card game, but because of centuries of persecution that continue today, it became a ubiquitous "fortune telling" (professional divination) tool. We will learn about the Romani cultural context for tarot and other popular divination, and its use for intuitive development, community care, and personal growth. Followed by a Q&A.

Jezmina is the coauthor of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling and cohost of Romanistan Podcast. Roma are a diasporic ethnic group originally from India, also known by the slur/misnomer “G*psies,” which Roma and related groups ca reclaim, but others cannot appropriate.

You can get a reading from Jezmina at the Psychic Parlour at the Yoga Lee Studio afterwards from 12-5 pm 🔮

🌿🕯️ Botanical Ritual by Day.
✨🖤 Noir Spellwork by Night.
I have a definite weakness for things that feel as though they could have been discovered tucked away in an old apothecary… botanical illustrations, curious little objects, beautifully strange fragrances, antique ephemera, and anything with just enough mystery to make you wonder about its story... So when I discovered L’Apothicaire Co., I knew immediately that their candles belonged at The Enchanted Altar.

They are a small-batch, woman-owned maker inspired by many of the same things I love: botanicals, vintage ephemera, antiques, curiosities, art, and unexpected fragrance combinations. And I couldn't choose between their lighter botanical world and their darker, stranger one… so naturally, I brought in both 😂🌿🖤

The Botanica Collection feels like wandering through an old herbarium or an overgrown garden with an apothecary basket tucked over your arm. Forest Moss, Moonflower + Nettle, Sweet Grass + Jasmine, Cannabis + Rose, Wild Rose + Peony, To***co Flower, Sea Kelp + Lavender… scents filled with flowers and herbs, damp earth and forest floor, tea, smoke and salt air. They are botanical candles for people who like their florals a little wild and their home fragrance to smell like somewhere they might actually want to disappear into.

And then there is Noir Collection… 🖤 This is the other side of my heart entirely: candlelit studies, Gothic literature, old books, divination tables, folklore, Victorian mourning, graveyards, forbidden things and the beautifully macabre. Spellbound, Requiem, Nevermore, Absinthe, Fortune + Fate, Wisdom + Wonder, Forbidden, Graveyard Roses + Sacred.

These are the gothic candles I imagine burning while pulling Tarot Cards after dark, writing in a journal by candlelight, tending an altar, reading something deliciously spooky, or simply making an ordinary evening feel a little more enchanted. They also make wonderfully unusual witchy gifts for the beautifully strange people in your life.

I think that is what I love most about carrying both collections. They feel like two rooms in the same old apothecary. One opens onto the garden. The other waits at the end of a dark hallway with a candle burning inside 🌿🥀🕯️

✨ Which door are you opening first? Both collections are waiting to be discovered at The Enchanted Altar 6 Park Place in Downtown Lee, Massachusetts, here in the heart of the .

Step into the art of Herbal Alchemy 🌿🍯
Join me at the Berkshire Botanical Garden on Saturday, October 31st, for a hands-on oxymel workshop exploring herbalism, folk medicine, seasonal wellness, and the home apothecary.

WHAT IS AN OXYMEL? An is a traditional herbal preparation made by combining honey and vinegar with herbs, roots, fruits, and spices. Sweet, sour, and versatile, oxymels offer herbalists and home medicine makers a practical, and delicious, way to extract and preserve the properties of plants.

🌿 During this herbal workshop, we’ll explore the history, uses, and versatility of oxymels while learning how to create thoughtful, balanced botanical formulations. You’ll taste prepared oxymel blends, experience how flavor can guide formulation, and learn how different herbal ingredients may support everyday wellness, immune health, and the body through seasonal shifts.

One of my favorite things about folk herbalism is that it invites us to work with our senses, our knowledge, and our relationship with the plants themselves. Rather than following one prescribed recipe, you’ll work intuitively with a curated selection of herbs, roots, and spices to craft a unique honey-and-vinegar herbal preparation to take home.

Whether you are beginning your herbalism journey, building a home apothecary, interested in natural wellness and plant medicine, or curious about traditional herbal preparations, this beginner-friendly class offers an approachable way to deepen your connection with plants and create something useful for the colder months ahead.

No previous herbal experience is necessary. All ingredients, supplies, tastings, and workshop materials are included.

Three of the most ancient-sounding names on the Witch’s Calendar were given to their festivals in 1974. I know that can feel startling if you’ve always heard the Wheel of the Year described as one ancient tradition passed down intact ✨🕯️🌙

The solstices 🌞 and equinoxes 🌚 are ancient celestial turning points, and Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane, and Lughnasadh have older roots in Gaelic seasonal tradition. The eight-part Wheel that brings those days together took shape within modern Paganism, particularly twentieth-century Wicca and Druidry. I love learning where its different threads came from, because each one has its own story 🧵🪡

⚙️ When writer Aidan Kelly was making a Pagan calendar in 1974, he wanted names for the spring equinox, summer solstice, and autumn equinox that felt at home beside celebrations such as Samhain and Yule. He chose Ostara 🥚 drawing on the name associated with Ēostre; Litha 🌻 from Old English month names around midsummer; and Mabon 🍁 from Mabon ap Modron in Welsh mythology. Those older names and stories are real parts of cultural history. Their use as the names of these three Wheel of the Year festivals is modern. Yule 🌲 already had its own Germanic midwinter history.

For me, that doesn’t make a seasonal ritual feel any less sacred. When I notice the first changes in the garden, gather herbs through summer, or watch the light soften over the Berkshires in autumn, I am in relationship with seasons that are happening right outside my door. I can honor an old story, learn from a modern Pagan tradition, and still be honest about which is which.

You don’t have to be Wiccan to find meaning in the Wheel of the Year. Paganism holds many paths, and Witchcraft can be practiced in many ways. As a Witch and an herbalist, I want my nature-based spirituality to be curious about its history and attentive to the living land. Accurate history doesn’t diminish the Magic. It teaches us how to carry it with respect. 🌿
